ACA question..

by 1floridademocrat

So my wife has and Aunt and Uncle. The Uncle has Parkinsons and a few other health issues, mostly relating to skin cancer. He used to work for the Water district doing fieldwork in the 60's and 70's, and no one wore sunscreen. They live in St. Petersburg, Florida, but none of the other family does. As a result they want to and were ready to move up to where we live, Gainesville. My wife's family all lives near here, and they wanted to be closer to family. However they were told today that if they move, they have to cancel thier insurance and go through the whole thing again (and it took them 10 months to get thier insurance set up through the exchange)

I'm about over it

ok this very very very much qualifies as a "1st world problem" but..

So my wife and I wanted to get a new house. The one we have now we bought 6 months into our marriage, pre kids, etc. It's a nice house, but we could use some more room. So we put it on the market.. Bam, we got a cash offer within 4 grand of the asking price in 2 days! Much rejoicing!

So we found a house we wanted..Went to go get "prequalified" for mortgage and all that. Not thinking anything of it.. I knew my wife's debt to income ration was a bit high, (Child care costs put on Credit card, not the smartest move but what's done is done) She's a teacher, 19 years , same school, loves to teach, hates red tape, etc. But because of budget cuts and the like, no raise or COLA for a while now. .. I'm not one for these sorts of dairies normally.. but this is local to me, and important.

A great local project to build a downtown organic farm that would grow vegetables for the local homeless shelter, and the surrounding community. It's a great cause, and they are near the end of thier IndieGoGo time.. they haven't quite gotten to where they want to be in terms of funding..

Eat, Drink and be Merry.

by 1floridademocrat

A while back  (on Dkos3) I requested feedback about a website, I got a lot of great responses. But sadly the site didn't really have legs, so I scrapped it. And decided to try again.

A little background: While I do IT work for a living now, it wasn't always so.. for a long time I was deeply involved in the food industry, cooking mostly. Its something I'm passionate about, so I decided to combine IT with Food..

I love social bookmarking sites, things like Digg and Reddit. There's always some site I don't know about that someone else has linked. And there's a plethora of food recipe sites out there. Some small, some big.

A Huge Thanks to Dkos

by 1floridademocrat

Yesterday I posted a diary about me starting a business (www.autopidgeon.com) and asked for feedback in a variety of ways. I just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me out by looking at the site, giving spelling and proofreading help, and some other types of feedback.

I mean it to, I did a full proofreading and grammar check last night, and while I may have missed something, its a lot better.

Long time user (UID in the 2000), not a huge poster but I've been around. I've been very hesitate to post this, as its non political, and its not like my health is in danger or anything.

Simply put, I need help starting a business.

God's Curveball

by 1floridademocrat

This diary has nothing to do with any of the following directly:

  1. the election
  1. Any candidate
  1. Anything remotely political.

What this does have to do with is a total unforeseen life change.. in a very very good way.

Obama story

by 1floridademocrat

No.. this ISN'T a candidate bashing diary.. nor is a "Hillary sucks"

But what it is.. is a small short story showing WHY Obama is so damn strong.

I'm not a Political Scientist.. but I have a background in Sociology and Anthropology. I don't do it for a living, but parts I remember.. this is just MY personal thoughts on why Hillary is having and going to continue to have a very hard time beating Obama.

Barack Obama is not just a politician..

He's become a symbol.
