I caught this article by Jeffery Young at The Hill (h/t Matt Yglesias) discussing the health care bill with Andy Stern of the SEIU. One comment struck me as relevant to broader concerns about progressive strategy.
There is quite a bit of buzz around the blogesphere lately with regard to whether or not Obama is really a progressive, really wants progressive policies to be realized and the like. There is Matt Taibi's article in Rolling Stone. Then there are Digby's comments. Matt Yglesias has a response, and Steve Bennen chimes in. There are also comments from a reader at TPM. And follow the links you can get more comments on the comments and so forth.
I just saw this over at TPM. Apparently Rahm Emanuel is to give a talk at the Brookings Institute tomorrow. In this speech he has certainly gotten the progressive religion. He rips the Bush Administration up and down over the overall corruption of the Bush Administration and its entrenched cronyism. The money quote would have to be
The Bush Administration has redefined the famous challenge of President Kennedy’s inaugural address. Instead of "Ask not what your country can do for you," it has become "Ask what your government can do for our party."
I think our chances for success on the Iraq War funding supplemental are actually pretty good. I come to that conclusion from thinking about Bush's options, and his character.
Well at least it should not be called a boycott. What am I talking about you say. Well, I caught part of Air America's Politically Direct and they were discussing the cancellation of the Fox sponsored debate in Nevada. The discussion included none other than our lord high poo bah Kos.
Now that the possibility of Cheney leaving has reached the level of a spurious rumor reported by Josh Marshal I'd like to raise discussion of how progressives and the Democratic Party should react to Cheney stepping down.
