I guess the title almost says it all...but I know folks here like to know methods and questions for polls. This one was a very NY-centric poll and my first experience with a robo-poll. I live in New York and do not support Caroline Kennedy for the Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton. I nornally don't get a lot of telemarketer calls so I almost hung up...but once they identified themselves I knew that I could not pass up the opportunity to get polled. So, for all of you that say "no one I know ever gets polled, they are pure BS" at least one Kos reader got tapped by Scotty R.

GOP Tanks in Election Futures Market

by Alderaan

Good morning, everyone.

I know some of you are true believers in the predictive ability of futures markets like the Iowa Electronic Markets and Tradesports. Some of you are skeptics. Whatever your feelings, the trends look good right now. Here's a brief summary.

Language Laffs

by Alderaan

Just a couple of fun thoughts to kick off the weekend:

Why is it good to translate the Bible but bad to translate the National Anthem?

Fun weekend trivia:

Martin van Buren, 8th President of the United States (and a Democrat!), did not speak English at home and it was not his native language. He spoke Dutch as his first language. He was born, of course, in the United States.

Have a great weekend, all!

The secret of Ann Coulter

by Alderaan

I was thinking about Ann Coulter today.

Ann Coulter is basically an uglier, less funny Sarah Silverman (a 'comedian' famous for being a nice, pretty Jewish girl who tells very dirty and outrageously racist jokes for the shock value).

It's all shock value, she likes the attention. She is actually very boring. She says nothing new. More after the jump.

Filibuster - Frist is revealing

A good rule to follow is:

Watch what they DO, not what they SAY.

Bizarro story of the day is that our favorite GOPer, Congressman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) is blocking the recently agreed-upon Patriot Act extension deal. And he isn't saying why.

Borrowed from Yahoo! News:

House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner threatened Thursday to block passage of six-month extension of the Patriot Act, Republicans officials said, leaving open the possibility that the anti-terror legislation enacted after the attacks of 2001 might expire at year's end.

Something strange is going on at the Defense of Christmas News Channel.

Go to the Fox News Online Store here:

Now scroll down. Notice anything?

That's right. A No Spin Zone Holiday Ornament for your Holiday Tree. "Put your holiday tree in the No Spin Zone!"

If you have any winger relatives all fired up about how liberals are ruining Christmas, make sure to send them the link. And don't forget to mention how those liberal Commies at Fox News are part of the conspiracy against Christians.

Gives a little more credence to the folks at People for the American Way who claim all this "Christmas/Happy Holidays" nonsense is just to get gullible wingers riled up, don't it?

Wishing you a pleasant holiday season,

Thinking about Apologies

by Alderaan

Bush wouldn't apologize unless the polling in deep red areas like Mississippi was truly dismal.

Remember, he NEVER apologizes and NEVER explains. This is like a religion to Rove. It's a deliberate strategy. It's worked for 5 years. Why change now? Rove: "If you are explaining, you are losing".

Nancy Pelosi is having the best week ever. First, she demands Bush fire Brown. He does. Then, she demands he take responsibility. He does.

All this does is weaken Bush more, since the Dem mantra will now be "Bush took responsibility for New Orleans, why won't he take responsibility for [x]?".

Plus, I can't wait to see the looks on the faces of the Freepers- they REALLY BELIEVE it isn't his fault, they will be very upset. All this does it add ammo to the argument that Blanco and Nagin did the best they can, and the feds are the screwups.

Analysis after the jump:

Something Awful nails it (humor)

by Alderaan

Hey everybody:

It's been a stressful week. I could use a laugh. And when I went over to Something Awful to see the weekly 'Photoshop Phriday', the topic was..."Sensationalized News Stories". It's one of the funniest commentaries on inane MSM nonsense I've seen lately.

Check it out here:

Rove Quacking Loudly

by Alderaan

Kos asks on the mainpage today if Rove is on vacation, seeking an explanation of all the bum moves coming from the GOP lately.

Rove has never run a Lame Duck before. I think that's all there is to it. He knows how to game things for the next election, but there is no next election.

He is in unexplored territory with a tin ear. Even worse, the Congressmen he needs to do his bidding ALL have a next election. Soon. He's already got all the Southern senators he can expect to get. Where is the room to grow? I seriously doubt he'll pick up places like Vermont. So, how does he motivate them? More after the jump.
