I got home from work early and switched on the TV to see some of the start of the convention coverage. As usual, I turned on MSNBC and found Tom Brokaw, Chuck Todd, and Dan Balz on the screen.
I what may be a new personal record for douche-baggery, both Balz and Brokaw came up with winners within my first 5 min.
Balz was talking about Michelle Obama, and how the role of First Lady is more complicated now. His winning line: "Americans want a First Lady who is strong, but who also has family values". As though the two were mutually exclusive; as though the only definition of "family values" for a wife is to be a subservient maid. Maybe Michelle should wear one of those plain pastel dresses those religious cultists wear, and keep her head bowed modestly whenever Barack is speaking.
A minute or so later, Brokaw chimed in on a different topic, that of Obams's electoral challenges. "His (Obama's) supporters are so...so...'besotted' by him, they won't admit that he has any challenges". Obviously, Tom has never read any of the 20 or so "sky is falling" diaries that appear on Daily Kos every day.
And the worst thing is: MSNBC is probably the best of the lot.
It's going to be a loooong week.
