You remember me from Netroots for the Troops 2010, right? Volunteer coordinator, the sober one at karaoke? SanDiegoDem has promised to help me with the bar stools this year.

Cast NN10

Working left handed for a while was good for the grey matter. Fortunately all our children are old enough to help when I needed it. Have I ever mentioned we have six daughters? maggiejean says I have a sweet way of explaining all that.

The oldest daughter's plans for the wedding with family became a quick trip to a Virginia courthouse. Army orders to report to a foreign post are on the Army's timetable. They have known each other since high school. One chose the Big East to get a degree; the other an SEC college. Two deployments to Iraq, conversations on the intertoobs, and ten years later they found each other again: the career Army career officer and our local newspaper copy editor.

Now the American-made bridesmaid dresses are being nipped, tucked and pressed. The historic house for the reception one block south of where they will celebrate a Nuptial Mass has the locavore menu. (I did not know Art Nouveau started as a Czech style!). What may still be up in the air is whether the wedding toast is with the pilsner from Pilsen or a premium Budweiser lager (no, not that Budweiser, the real one), and whether my spouse will dance at the wedding.

There is talk of long train ride to somewhere it is cooler and a green honeymoon. She is ready to be insulted for only studying French for a decade, and having parents that used some German and Spanish at home. I just hope he stops the one-sided war bride Russian conversations.

Hey, this looks like most of the pictures I have of my spouse. Ha! It's not a picture of First Lady Michelle Obama or Dr. Jill Biden when they were at the National Math and Science Competition at the Fountain-Fort Carson High School in Colorado Springs, Colo., as they

call on all sectors of society to support and honor America’s service members and their families. ... The initiative is intended to educate, challenge and spark action among citizens, communities, businesses, nonprofits, faith-based institutions, philanthropic organizations ...

Hey, that's us, right here, reading this! Remember, the families stateside sometimes get their lives in the way of a red tape tornado. You might be surprised if you ask an active service member about Emergency Relief Services for their branch. This is about helping them, too.

I am in for another $59. We got another fine-print for-any-reason annual fee notification from one of the too-big-to-fail basturd banksters. What will it take to motivate you?

Now that I have you laughing and crying, jump over the fold for some reality about The Boxes.

Welcome to our Netroots for the Troops, Inc. Holiday Fundraiser: Twelve Days of Christmas Blog! Today is the sixth day of Christmas, wherein we receive VERY SPECIAL birds and ANOTHER pear tree and some GOLDEN stuff ...

In this edition...we contemplate just how the song came about and what our gift on Day 6 actually means...along with some other speculations about the origins of the song... And while we're at it, how much do all those gifts cost? The answers to these mysteries will be revealed over the jump, but first a bit of intro on NFTT.

Netroots for the Troops is a DK tradition. We raise funds each year to create and send care packages to our troops. There's something magical about receiving a care package. Your donation will help us create and ship packages full of useful and fun things to our soldiers overseas. Boxes will be packaged next summer at Netroots Nation. More on how to donate below.

Netroots for the Troops is putting out a call for volunteers, and I am the volunteer coordinator. It will be my honor to nag contribute to something positive.

We need people to help at the booth Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9AM to 6PM. On Saturday after lunch we will pack the care boxes that will go to the troops.

If you'll be in Las Vegas and can help out for a bit, even if you are not attending NN10, follow over the fold to find out how you can help.

Diarist here can let the FPer's like Meteor Blades pick up the slack, but I am hoping we will have them drop in for just the company.

And, yes, I'm still accepting votes on a most identifiable trait. So far it looks like the front for gold, left side for blue, right side for crimson. Many thanks!

Netroots for the Troops is putting out a call for volunteers, and I answered the one for volunteer coordinator. Even though we are most recently a woozle family, having raised six children I know how to herd cats.

We need people to help at the booth Thursday and Friday, and on Saturday pack the care boxes that will go to the troops. If you'll be in Las Vegas and can help out for a bit---I trust Bill in Portland Maine that it's quite an experience---follow over the fold to find out how you can help.

Great news about the corporation world in TexDem's Mojo Friday diary!

Last year Gunny's gave us the sand scarves at cost, this year he's donating them.

Mechanix Wear has set us up as a vendor in order for us to purchase their gloves at wholesale cost.

I'll was reminded of why we are doing this.

I saw the pictures from his second deployment to Iraq.

NFTT: Who me?

So it is the middles.

It's hump day.

Day one gagazillion of watching the Gulf of Mexico underwater cameras.

Day thirteen boozillion of watching paint dry in the Senate while counter-cyclical fiscal policy withers in the cloakroom.

Day forty yayazillion of wondering if anybody is serious about real discourse.

It will be my honor to nag contribute to something positive.

The woozle has gone and fallen for a troop.

We are waiting for them all to come home.

I'll was reminded of why we are doing this when I saw the pictures from his second deployment to Iraq.

NFTT: Flag Day Edition

by CA Berkeley WV

The kids who lived on the Navy base literally walked through the gate onto the high school campus. They had gone to different elementary schools and a different junior high than the townie kids. In high school we mingled and we raised the flag in the morning. When we lost one of our own during the Vietnam War we lowered the flag to half mast.

Those who join do the job asked of them, whether one agrees with that mission or not. The Army wears the flag on the right shoulder patch, and the left shoulder is left for unit patches. The canton is to the viewer's right, instead of the usual left, with the union closest to their heart. The highest position of honor is the front, so when displayed on a moving object like a person or vehicle, the field of blue is displayed to the front.

In town today we are flying the nation's flag, the state flag and the POW/MIA flag. Today is one of the six national observances for which Congress has ordered display of the POW/MIA flag. It has the motto: YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN. What you can do here is let those now deployed know that we have not forgotten them.

Again, this year, Netroots For The Troops seeks to make a tangible thank-you in our small way to the troops who are still serving, before they become veterans. Our mission is two-fold: shipment of CARE packages to U.S. soldiers and Marines serving in hostile regions of Iraq and Afghanistan for the duration of their deployment, and on-going financial assistance for veterans and their families upon their return to the States.

Our goal for 2010 is $100,000 (cash or in-kind donations). So far, we've raised $24,591, 25 percent of our goal. So there is a long way to go.

NFFT is a project of Netroots Arts and Education Initiative (NAEI), a 501(c)3 organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

You may remember me from the late Capitol Hill News Open Thread with the very capable and newly graduated with advance degree Casual Wednesday. Now another kossack, jlms qkw, asked for volunteers for this series.

It will be my honor to contribute. The woozle has gone and fallen for a troop.

We are waiting for them all to come home. I'll share a story from my spouse's family tomorrow.

Good evening, Daily Kos readers. This is your evening open thread to discuss all things Hill-related. Use this thread to praise or bash Congresscritters, share a juicy tip, ask questions, offer critiques and suggestions, or post manifestos.

This is an open source project, so feel free to add your own insights.

I am still taking roll call for district number and committee assignments.

Here's the news I found lurking around the Internets..
