Conservative and Tea Party members of Congress just won't stop trying to defund, delay, and/or repeal Obamacare, even though the law passed both chambers of Congress, was signed into law by the President, and was upheld in the United States Supreme Court. In other words, all three branches of government have settled this law.

In their efforts to destroy Obamacare, these elected officials have wasted over $50 million in this charade, and they are gathering up their forces to begin another fight fight to defund, delay, and/or repeal the law.

They have been wasting America's time and financial resources in this effort since 2011.

It's time to tell them to stop.

This will be short, but wanted to get the word out.  We all know how NPR has catipulted into the hinterlands of neoconservative dogma, what with Mara Liasson and Cokie Roberts as NPR's predominant political analysts.  Now is your chance to be a part of a "diverse" team of  journalists.

Alabama's HB56, a wide-sweeping anti-migrant law, has proven so economically devastating (duh) that farmers are seeking legislation to force hard labor upon inmates eligible for work release programs, to "help farms fill the gap and find sufficient labor."

Alabama isn't the only state, or entity for that matter, to practice such...opportunism.

SB-1867, the National Defense Authorization Act, sponsored by John McCain-(R) and Carl Levin-(D), essentially adds provisions that designates the entire US and its territories as a "battlefield" in the war on terrorism, expanding the US military's power to capture and imprison American citizens anywhere in the world if they are "suspected terrorists", indefinitely, without charge, and without a trial, at Guantanamo Bay or other sites. The bill was drafted by the two senators in a closed committee meeting, without a hearing. Link.

As it stands, the Patriot Act gives only the President the capability to declare someone an "enemy combatant," and the US Supreme Court has ruled that US citizens can be given that designation. (Most notably in the Hamdi case, where the Court ruled an American detained on the battlefield in Afghanistan could be declared an enemy combatant, as long as he had an opportunity to challenge his detention, excellent analysis here. (Any analysis from lawyers in the comments about this is most welcome.) As if having one person determine one's destiny isn't surreal enough, this bill's provisions expands that power of designation to the US military.

Think this won't become law?  Think again.  We have a Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

Salon has just published a scathing report on Eric Cantor, and it won't surprise any of you. Apparently, he has invested in a mutual fund that shorts long-term US treasury bonds "meaning that it performs well when U.S. debt is undesirable. (A short is when the trader hopes to profit from the decline in the value of an asset.)"

Well, blow me over with a feather.

Amidst the meta war going on here, I thought I'd add my two cents, for whatever they're worth.  Today, President Obama went on the offensive, attacking Republicans for once again, obstructing a bill that would help ordinary Americans--small business owners in this instance--by increasing small loans.

That's what we want to see, Mr. President.  Tell the American people what specific Republican tactics are ruining their lives.

More after the flip.

A series of indicators this week, not to mention words from the Joint Chief Chairman's mouth, signify a clear step forward on the part of the Bush administration toward war with Iran and Syria.  Admiral Michael Mullen said today that the Pentagon is planning for "potential military courses of action" against Iran, because of their "increasingly lethal and malign influence" in Iraq.

More intrigue from our top brass and Executive branch below the fold.

(Crossposted in part on eenrblog.)

In 2002, during Republican Governor Frank Murkowski's term, the Alaska Board of Fish and Game ignored the will of Alaskan voters for for a second time and began an aerial assault on Alaskan wolves in order to boost moose and caribou populations in a specific district near McGrath, Alaska. (Voters overwhelmingly voted against aerial predator control in 1996 and again in 2000). Each subsequent year, the Board expanded the number of districts, and now aerial "predator control" spans almost 50,000 square miles, and has resulted in over 700 wolf kills by Alaska Fish and Game. There are an estimated 7,700-11,000 remaining in the entire state of Alaska, thus around 8-10% of the state's population of wolves have already been killed.

The goal of Republican Governor Sarah Palin and the Board is to leave wildlife biologists out of the decision-making process, and cull 80% of the wolf population in five enormous wolf-rich districts, and very recently bears have been added to the cull-schedule.

Let's be clear, I'll vote for whoever the nominee is come November. Till then, I'm going to work hard for Hillary Clinton's presidential bid.  I've vascillated between both candidates for quite some time, one day for Hillary, the next for Obama. I've read their platforms, and I've given thoughtful consideration to their flaws and dirty campaigning--and, both do partake in the dark side at times in terms of campaigning...

But yesterday I came across this TPM article that pushed me over the edge firmly into Clinton camp.

More over the fold.
