While I have not lived in the Hoosier state for several years now (I have settled down in our VP-Elects state) my friends, family and many fond memories are still back in my home state.
My father, a life long Democrat, did something he has not really done before. He stayed up and watched the returns, McCain's concession speech, Obama's acceptance speech and then went to bed before anyone called Indiana. He's a teacher and has an early morning so he couldn't stay up any later.
I called him first thing this morning, before he was able to check the news, and gave him the good news. For the first time in his entire life, his vote for President of the United States was with the winner in his state. He wasn't even in high school the last time a Democrat was given Indiana's electoral votes, but now he gets to see the wait finally pay off. Hoosiers are turning increasingly blue, voting for more Democratic congresspeople, more Democratic state offices and more willingness to look at someone's character beyond just an (R) next to their names.
It's a beautiful dawn in Delaware, but I'm facing West, looking towards Indiana, missing my family, missing my home state but so incredibly proud of what they have done and what we, as a country, have done.
