I am part of a group of Americans here in Halifax, Nova Scotia that are helping people to register to vote and sign up for absentee ballots.
Along the way I've met a bunch of Canadians that would love to help get Bush out. I've suggested they write letters to the editor to US papers, but I also thought they might be able to write or call undecided voters directly as well.
With this in mind, I emailed the ACT office in Maine and got this reply:
"Unfortunately, for political and
campaign finance reasons, folks from Canada cannot call or write into Maine.
The only way you guys can participate at this point would be to physically come
to Maine and canvass."
I understand that foreigners can't donate money to political campaigns, but I thought it was fine for them to volunteer. (and this article seems to suggest I was right)
I've registered a lot of voters by myself this summer, and I'll be giving their names and addresses to people here who want someone to write, but I was hoping to do more.
I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas for what my next step should be.
