The burning question in the MSM over the last couple of days has been whether or not President Obama will congratulate GWB for the surge, which has allowed us to withdraw.
I'm all in favor of that, providing we also give him credit for lying us into the war in the first place, for the more than 4000 US fatalities, tens of thousands of US casualties (physical and mental/emotional), and trillions of dollars spent to achieve a fragile peace between factions that cannot agree on a government and could once again erupt into civil war at any time.
We should also remember to give him credit for prolonging the war in Afghanistan by invading Iraq before the job was finished.
As long as the MSM also gives credit where it is due to the above accomplishments, I don't believe we should give credit to people who started a war, let it languish for 5 years, for coming up with a strategy to bring the violence down to where we can safely get out.
Those pundits who think we should credit Bush are engaging in revisionist history, nothing new for Republicans. Without reminding us who started this misbegotten, illegitimate war, they want to give themselves credit for winning it, kind of like robbing a bank, then claiming credit for recovering 10% of the money stolen.
