I'm So Sorry Trayvon

by Dema Broad

So as I was crying the other night, after the verdict, I spit this out on FB. It has 55 shares so far and 165 likes. It literally flew out of me through the anguish of that moment.
Since is seemed to have touched so many, I wanted to share with the Daily Kos family.

Sasha Obama Tugs Daddy

by Dema Broad

I've been hoping someone else would notice this and post it here. I don't want to diary, I want to come here and read! The biggest smile for me November 6th, after winning of course, came in the moments before the President gave his victory speech. The 1st Family, on stage, in all our glory. Representing America. Being a mother of two girls a bit younger than the Obama's kids, I'm always looking at those beautiful girls when they make appearances.
As they're waving, Sasha tugs daddy and says, "look behind you, look behind you".
She didn't want him to ignore any of his supporters. The family turned and waved, and the folks 'in the back' went wild. Little Sasha's face beamed.
As we would say down south, "these kids have good home training". Or "they're not raised by wolves." Or "good rearing, these ones." We got a million of 'em.
The sweetness is around 00:42 .... enjoy.

Its been pointed out in the comments that this has indeed been diaried before on DKos.
I have NO idea how I missed these, I'm here several times a day!

That's great!
Something so touching can't ever be given enough enough light in my opinion.

Let's Cut Ohio Some Slack

by Dema Broad

"Every four years, the American people ask themselves a important question: Why, again, do we let Ohio decide the fate of the free world?"

Ohio Voters Are Sick and Tired of Deciding the Fate of the Universe

This article links to another one that names the states that have already signed on for a National Popular Vote. If your state hasn't got on board, time to call, write, basically beef until they do. National Popular Vote

As long as the Adelson's, Koch's, and innumerable anonymous deep pockets have the run of the election house, this will of course never happen.
But any election/campaign reform should address Citizens United as well as a national population vote.
I can't think of a down side to this direction.

Not Post Racial, Most Racial

by Dema Broad

We have to all be activists.
We're all Malcolm X now.
Let me backtrack a bit. I was born in 1963, Dallas Texas. I was literally there when JFK was assassinated. My mother took infant me to the parade in downtown Dallas. She waved to the president, then went to pick up her check. Mom was a registered nurse at Parkland Hospital, where the nurses station was at the emergency room door.
As they wheeled in a fatally wounded JFK, she nearly fainted, and I was taken from her arms for safety.
I am connected deeply to this country, even that dark side of our history.
I am a woman of color.
I am adopted. Years ago I found my birth mother, she had passed on. But I discovered that she gave me up because a single black woman in a 1963 south, would never have been able to become what she dreamed of becoming, a school teacher. My entire life experience is a result of that sadly necessary choice, because of racism.
I am as American as they come. I'm proud of our country. Proud we elected & reelected a brilliantly imperfect compassionate African-American to the White House.
Then there's this:

Stay with me for a minute....

My Fellow Citizen Republicans, a few thoughts if I may.
Do you need to be dragged scratching and kicking into the 21st Century?
Ladyparts Owners Can Vote!
We Can Vote Too Dummie!

This is America's Changing Electorate. Every month for the next two decades, 50,000 Hispanics will turn 18. - from:

Pop Daddy, Daddy Stop
When will you realize that you can't say one thing this morning and say you didn't this afternoon? Because, uhhm, youtube.
When will you acknowledge that you can't say a thing is true when it clearly is not? Because, uhhm, facts.
When will you accept that saying you don't like my numbers makes them wrong? Because, uhhm, math.
Will you ever just admit that grumpy old white men aren't always the smarter folks in any room?

My 1st diary. Almost like stepping on stage that 1st time, but scarier!

I haven't seen any mention of this as of yet on DKos.
This afternoon, UAW President Bob King is holding a "news conference on Mitt Romney'€™s conflicts of interest with his investments, including his profiting from the auto bailout".

According to the article on Greg Palast's website Mitt Romney learned yesterday the he will be "charged with violating the federal Ethics in Government law by improperly concealing his multi-million dollar windfall from the auto industry bail-out." The use of the word 'charged' is Mr. Palast's choice, not mine. In the article's however, its much clearer. There is a complaint being filed by a group of union leaders and workers. They have called upon the "U.S. Office of Government Ethics to investigate GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for noncompliance with the Ethics in Government Act and compel him to either disclose his investments or divest them."

This quote in particular is the kicker: €œ"While Romney was opposing the rescue of one of the nation€™s most important manufacturing sectors, he was building his fortunes with his Delphi investor group, making his fortunes off the misfortunes of others," King added.
That's gonna piss off a lot of hard working straight shooting Ohioans.
If this is properly covered, Romney is sunk in Ohio. Game, set, match.

Let's just hope the media has been sufficiently slapped out of their horse race induced apathy by Romney's boldfaced Jeep lies enough and in time to do their jobs.

LINK to another diary from AnnetteK on DKos about UAW charges. Getting the story out there is goal, the more the merrier!

Mayhaps media is catching on. Thanks to maddrailin, a USA Today article today!
