Three 240 kw peak wave generators were brought online in Australia supplying power (and fresh water) to their largest naval base.

They send pressurized water to an onshore hydroelectric plant and also send water to a desalination plant, supplying both energy and fresh water.
Moar Pleeze?
larger units in order to achieve four times the capacity of the current units.
Sounds awesome. The units are submerged so no eye sore (looking at you Cape Wind), not sure of the enviro impact of a large farm of these, but interesting.

by Drewid

I know ya'll are feeling a bit self concious right now what with measles making a come back. The whole thing you convinced yourself is real is bearing fruit but not in a good way for anyone. So I invite you to Rage against the dying of the light of your own anti science and common sense views here. Speak your mind. Tell the rest of the modern world your story here, we'd love to here from you.

This goes for climate change deniers and other manners of science deniers.

All I want for Christmas...

by Drewid

It has been a while since I have properly sat down behind a keyboard and penned a diary. I may have done it once or twice in the past year when I found the time or the mood struck me. I don't have a proper computer so most of the time I am posting from a mobile device which anyone can tell you isn't exactly the best for site interface. Well I guess I am due, and I have a laptop I am using unfettered for thew moment and I have something to say, so here goes.

Christmas has always, well since maturing and I use the term loosely, brought a dichotomy of feelings to me. On one hand I love family, giving both in terms of gifts as well as time and selfless work and the uptick in love people tend to express to strangers. On the other hand I am put off by the blatant over the top consumerism and selfish "I want this and this and this" that comes into play as well. I also am burdened with the thoughts of those who struggle in our society more than normal.  People pinning for some carbon copy keeping up with the Jones gift whether it be a new electronic device or fashion or toy or adornment. Many people get caught up in the "Mom everyone else has one" attitude and want one for themselves just like it.

This Christmas is no different. I find myself somewhat gainfully employed, and it has been nearly a year since I have had to visit a vampire, I did have to tell my dishwasher at work he was being cut back to one day a week. I am aggressively lobbying for him to get the janitorial duties since we will be letting that service go but it's not a done deal. So when I see people lavishly buying shit they don't need as a status symbol of sorts, from places and companies that care little for people and only care about the season for it's effect on their bottom line, well I am a bit put off by it.

So there are a lot of do's and dont's with social media. Sorry, I am bad about such things too. Last night when I saw what a hopefully soon to be unemployed young woman wrote with hate about our beutiful first daughters I was at a loss for words for personal reasons. Well as hard as it is to believe but Elizabeth Lauten's social media fail may have been eclipsef as far as what people care about and pay attention to:

those on the West Coast who happened to follow the show’s official Facebook page and looked after the episode aired on the East Coast received quite the spoiler!
https://www.google.com/...

The official AMC Walking Dead Facebook page spoiled their own mid season finally. And then shared the post where they spoiled it to their page again to make sure it spoiled for 3 times as many people.
I am a sucker for zombies, but I really have been watching this show holding my nose and it has been kinda flat for a minute for me. Why bother watching anymore?

Happy Halloween

by Drewid

So this happened today not too far from here:
http://koin.com/...

Kendall pulled up alongside the Mounces as they were driving to their 9 a.m. court appearance, Erich told KOIN 6 News. He said he couldn’t tell if Kendall was aiming at him and missed, but said it looked like he just began firing in their direction.
Why?:
Kendall’s neighbors, Erich and Abigail Mounce, filed a lawsuit against Kendall in March 2013 after he rented out rooms in his home, a practice not allowed under homeowner association guidelines. In September, a judge ordered Kendall to move out his tenants, though he refused to do so.
A bystander was shot, not clear at this time by who.
All started by someone who was trying to get money, for whatever reason. He donated plasma yesterday. This doesn't excuse anything.
Sucks though.

Just an example of how prevelant the rape culture is in our society and specifically on college campuses, one Wisconsin University Frat has a system to identify women who are to recieve date rape drugs:

Officers noticed she had a red X on her hand.

The paper reports police were called to assist another severely intoxicated woman at the dorm 15 minutes later. The second woman also had a red X on her hand, and was unable to speak clearly or walk.

http://www.cbsnews.com/...

If we were serious about confronting the rape culture in this country and on our campuses this Frat would loose it's charter and the University would suspend any bartenders at the party. We would also pass laws that make it so that if you are convicted of drugging someone you have to register as a sex offender.

Somebody is Trying To Keep his Job

by Drewid

Didn't see a diary about it, but the NFL has revamped it's substance abuse policies.
http://www.nfl.com/...
Some suspensions cut due to new policies.
Haven't gone through and compared current versus new policy.
But it's new policy.
About something.
Good move for the NFL, Roger still needs to use his golden parachute.
