I am sold on the love of Jesus Christ for all of humanity, and I am so ashamed of some of the comments coming from some of my 'Christian' brothers which totally negate the meaning of the Gospel. What really drove me nuts just yesterday was the story about the gay 20-year-old being physically and verbally assaulted by his parents, just because he confessed that he is gay. Let me set the record straight. Jesus came to show the love of God for broken people. He did NOT come to compel people to adhere to some moral code. He did NOT come to condemn people who did not measure up to His perfect holiness.
So I am very ashamed that we have not shown the love of God to LGBT people. They are made in the image of God. And if an LGBT person tells me that he was born that way, how in the world can I justify passing judgement on him and claim that he was not born that way? How could I possibly know? I am only called to love him, just as I am called to love everyone else.
I am ashamed that we have condemned women who seek abortion as murderers, rather than trying to understand their reasons for choosing abortion. I am ashamed that we have told them they must not have an abortion, but we do nothing to help them after the baby is born. Hypocrisy! If we really cared about the unborn baby, we would have volunteered to provide a save living environment for the baby after he/she is born, and would have done everything possible to give that child a loving home and a good education.
I am ashamed that we have because so arrogant and haughty, claiming that we are right and holy and everyone else is detestable. This is NOT the love of God in action. We have no right to judge anyone, since we are just as sinful as everyone else.
Jesus once said that the world would know his disciples by their love for one another. But we have not demonstrated this love. Instead, we argue among ourselves over petty issues of doctrine, and we condemn the people Jesus died for.
I hope everyone reading this can see that there is a God of Love who really wants to know everyone. In spite of the actions and statements of some who claim to be Christian, but make Christianity look like a hate group instead of a group who gives out the Love of God to everyone.
