At best, Hillary Clinton is the Democratic version of Mitt Romney. She’s a fake, a fraud, an opportunistic phony. I really don’t understand how anyone can consider voting for her. Particularly when you consider the fact that Bernie Sanders is a much better option.
I understand the lure of being able to say “we made history.” Really though, is this how it should be done? Let’s not forget, Sarah Palin made history too. Was that a worthwhile exercise?
I really do wish that Hillary was the right person for the job. It would be wonderful to elect the first woman president straight after the first black one. Seriously though folks.
She’s. Not. Worth. It.
She doesn’t care about you. She cares about polls and power and the stupid fucking Clinton legacy. Like I said before, at best she’s another Romney. At worst? She’s Bush with a pantsuit and a better vocabulary.
I really want to know. In what way is she “better” than Sanders? Forget all of the crap about sky high promises vs. pragmatic reality. Seriously ask yourselves. Why can’t we shoot for the stars? Why is trying to achieve more somehow better than not even bothering?
Yea, the alternative is an old white guy with wispy hair and a funny accent. He’s tied to the word “Socialist” and there’s a good chance that he won’t be able to accomplish as much as what we’re all hoping for. But, do you really think the country would move backwards simply because he’s willing to try? What’s the alternative? Hillary gets elected and suddenly the Congress just decides to jump on the train to progress? Of course not. Whether it ends up being Hillary or Bernie, they’ll face the same obstructionist bullshit. However, isn’t it better to aim for a whole loaf and get half, rather than aiming for half and getting nothing?
I guess what I’m getting at is this, I don’t get the attraction to Hillary, whether we’re talking about her as a person or the way in which she wants to bring about change.
I’m a 30 something, white, male Republican from the South. I know that this makes me something of an oddity in a place like this. However, I voted for Obama in 2008 (and again in 2012) because I really believed in hope and change. The fact is, I still do. Hillary thinks that by tying herself to the status quo, that she can be the heir apparent to the Obama legacy. I think she misses the point. Would Obama of 2008 be content to keep on truckin’ with the Obama of 2016? No. I truly believe that he would demand more. He would fight for more. Currently, all I see Hillary fighting for is her own self-interests.
Please don’t vote screw this up. I think it would be amazing to finally have a woman elected president. Just not this woman.
Anyway, that’s all I guess. I’ll leave you with the following.
Actually, one last thing. I remember watching live when Trump announced that he was running for President. I also remember the general sense of “are you fucking kidding me?” that followed the ‘speech’. He was a joke. It was never going to happen. Etc… Etc…
My wife and I were in front of the television, and I told her then “They really don’t get it. He’s going to catch on.” The pundits thought it was a joke…. I wasn’t laughing then and I’m sure as hell not laughing now.
I know the people that he was speaking to, because they’re the folks that I grew up around. There’s more of them than you think. They’re sad and scared and yes, they’re angry. Every day they wake up in a world that they don’t understand, a world that doesn’t care about them. They’ve spent the past few decades getting screwed. They have no hope. Do I agree with Trump? Absolutely not. I think he’s a pig. That doesn’t mean I can’t put myself in the shoes of his supporters. Yes, even the racist ones.
All these people know is that they can’t get ahead. But, they don’t know why. So, along comes some raging douchebag who is willing to give voice to an anger which is impossible to articulate. The people that hear his message think to themselves “Finally! Someone who gets it!” All the braying jackass has to do is build a campaign on the notion that “It’s not your fault! Of course not! It’s those brown people over there. It’s the blacks and the women and the gays. Trust me, I’ll kick the shit out of them and I’ll MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”
The message works because it’s like a virus. It can only infect a weak host. For the most part, the message wouldn’t resonate with people who have good jobs and a life to look forward to.
Now, does Trump scare the shit out of me? You bet your ass. Do you know what scares me more? I don’t think Hillary Clinton has it in her to beat him. I don't think she can tap into the hurt and the frustration in the same way that he can. Frankly, she’s an uninspiring candidate. The best she can hope for is being the lesser of two evils. Contrast that with the Trump supporters. As far as they’re concerned he’s the greatest thing since a Bald Eagle fucked a piece of sliced bread whilst also reciting the constitution.
Please don’t screw this up. Don’t let a vote for Hillary Clinton lead to a world where Donald Fucking Trump is President.
