Since 1956, when the words "In God We Trust" was added to our money as part of an anti-communist fervor, the dollar has lost about 80% of its value due to inflation. I guess that was the intended purpose as it sure kept them dad-blasted commies away.
Commies aside, it's really a bit presumtuous to put such a high-falutin' phrase on anyone's money, let alone ours. I mean, does anyone honestly think god would want his name associated with a piece of currency like the dollar? Not only does it power the deadliest war machine in the known universe but it's also instrumental in a consumer-driven economic system whose ultimate goal seems to be the total destruction of our ecosytem.
But what do I know? Maybe it's just a place-holder until Republicans find a way to get god's picture on the money, too. You know... Ronald Reagan.
