Actions by the  police during the apprehension of Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and the individual who recently murdered 2 police officers in Santa Cruz provide valuable lessons on who should be permitted to carry arms in public.

I learned these lessons in Vietnam over 40 years ago. They are still valid and always will be.

Aside from the the fact that no one has ever escaped from a US maximum security prison, what would happen if a terrorist escaped from the Supermax Prison near Florence Colorado or Pelican Bay near Crescent City Califonia?

How about very rapid apprehension?

Socialism and Me

I lived in the former Yugoslavia for several years. Never thought I'd say it but under GW Bush our government resembles Tito's.

Representative Charles Boustany (R-LA), just back from Iraq, asserted on CNN that as a result of the surge "some major improvements" are being witnessed in Iraq. His experiences have inspired me to develop a sure-fire strategy for winning in Iraq.

The DLC and Leon Panetta are sounding not just like the Republicans, but like the neocons, regarding Iraq. They believe the US must continue to deploy as many as 100,000 troops there for the foreseeable future.

As the Bush administration completes secret new rules governing interrogations, a group of experts advising the intelligence agencies argue that the harsh techniques used since the 2001 terrorist attacks are outmoded, amateurish and unreliable. (And I might add immoral and beneath us.)

The US military services have opposed these techniques, which were supported by AG Gonzales, who call the Geneva Conventions "quaint" from the start.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not intend to vote for the Iraq deal reached yesterday by the White House and Congress while still praising the deal.

House Appropriations Chairman David Obey (D-WI) insisted that "we intend to continue that fight" for an Iraq timeline "on every vehicle available to us."
