Good Shuler for evangelizing evangelicals to support climate change legislation!
In the Bible, Genesis Chapter 1 tells us, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." North Carolina Congressman Heath Shuler says that's a good place to start when it comes to climate change legislation. Shuler joined Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello today to call on Catholics and Evangelical Christians to follow their faith and support climate change legislation.

Governor Sarah Palin was prayed over by an Alaskan preacher to protect her from witches, but he ought to have thought of zombies as well. She's coming to Asheville, North Carolina tomorrow afternoon, and her visit coincides with our city's Annual Zombie Walk.

After driving like a banshee hopped up on DayQuil and Amp, I rolled into the annual Vance-Aycock Dinner at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina hoping to catch a glimpse of Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama. The event was filled to the gills with every candidate and party insider you can imagine. I’ll get lots of photos up at some point, but the star of the show was the rumor that Obama would appear at the dinner. I expected to wait two hours for Obama to come in after the keynote speaker, Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, but I was happily surprised when a cluster of national press corps folks formed a rampart at the rope line leading to the stage. In just a couple of minutes, out strode Barack Obama. I shot as much video as the Canon Powershot would allow and bolted out of the Grove Park to upload it at Chez Arratik. Now I’m gone again, back to see what’s what.

Scrutiny Hooligans helped dethrone an Appropriations "Cardinal" and elect a Mixed Bag Democrat. We launched a News Network and helped stop an unnecessary power plant. We blogswarmed for mental health, surprising the powers that be with our tenacity, ferocity, and logic. We’ve helped alter the course of our local Democratic Party.
And that’s just the last 12 months.
Come on over to Scrutiny Hooligans, firmly in the pantheon of consonant level blogs, and wish us well!

McHenry EXPOSED, a McHenry watchdog site, was shut down at 3 p.m. this afternoon by the host.
The site's proprietor sent this message to fellow bloggers:
"In an apparent attempt to silence the message of Patrick McHenry Exposed, our website was disabled today around 3:00pm EST. This effort was undertaken by our host provider, AlphaOne Tech (aka 4Gays Hosting). While no further information is available at this time, we do know that someone contacted the host and made them aware of the site. This person’s complaint was that the information contained on the website was false, misleading and potentially in violation of corporate libel and slander laws. The hosting company is not providing any further details and acted only to protect their own interests - they are not the enemy."

Yesterday it was Sy Hersh explaining that the Bush administration is funneling money to radical Sunni groups to combat Iranian Shiite influence as the DoD draws up a 24-hour rapid attack strategy.

Woodfin, celebrated home of short-sighted governance on Asheville's northern shore, in partnership with ethically questionable county commissioners leased 78 acres of land to Progress Energy for a dollar. Progress hopes to build a Diesel Power Plant, which will become one of the top five polluters in Buncombe County.
Where to begin?
[Charles Taylor agreed to a radio debate with Heath Shuler at the 570AM studio with local talk radio personality Matt Mittan. At 12:30 today, he told Mittan that he would participate instead from a remote location in Henderson County. Terms of the debate dictated that the two candidates be together in the same room and were allowed one staff person each. Charles Taylor's breach of the terms of the debate led Heath Shuler to terminate the debate.]
Matt Mittan thanks other stations who are carrying the debate. Mittan explains that Shuler had an hour on the show on Wednesday and that Taylor appeared on Thursday. Heath Shuler is in the studio while Taylor, at 12:30, is in the studio at WHKP in Hendersonville. Mittan explains why he is out of compliance with the debate agreement. Read More
