This will be fast and dirty. I waited for someone else to post something, and I looked for an appropriate diary for me to add this news, but here you are, before everyone hits the hay.
Monday afternoon (I know it’s Tuesday on the coast closest to the Mideast), Trump’s Budget Director, Mick Mulvaney, held a briefing on the budget.
During the briefing, Mulvaney bragged that illegal aliens would be denied the child-care tax credit and the earned-income tax credit. A correspondent for the Russian news agency Sputnik asked whether that wouldn’t harm children of their families who had been born here, and thus were American citizens.
The exchange has been reported in the Washington Post in an article by Dana Milbank. It was an exchange because Mulvaney, probably unaware that the man was a reporter for Sputnik, argued back, saying that the reporter wasn’t considering whether it was fair to taxpayers and that “we have all kinds of other programs” for poor kids.
At that, some other reporter at the briefing spoke up, saying “You’re cutting that, too.”
The Post is running this headline above Milbank’s article: “Trump’s budget Is so cruel a Russian propaganda outfit set the White House straight”.

CORRECTION: In the first link to a New York Times article below my public service announcement, I forgot to credit Julie Hirschfield Davis. We want to let the folks with bylines know we appreciate all their hard work.
NOTICE: Annieli has posted a diary about Trump’s Hater Budget, which sets forth some of the detail covered by the articles to which I’ve linked.
