The most serious issues are the issues of the war and peace. Foreing policy has always been and is always the first policy, not the economy. The war in Iraq has made a shortage of the troops in all NATO-countries. Still the hawks are wanting a new war. That it would be only a bombarment is that kind of thing similar to president's Bush ''short war in Iraq'' or ''sending only military advicers'' to Vietnam. The selective sercive system waits to activation and now Rep. Rangel D-NY has also proposed that. Reistituting the draft has always been a dream of the hawks since it ended 1973-1975. You cannot have a massive mobilization without it. The only reason for not having it has been the public opinion. The hawks are currently not in full power. There has not been a really major military operation since Vietnam. Big part of the post-Vietnam conservative movement can be understood as reaction to the withdrawal for Vietnam in 1973. Bush, Fox News and others preparing people mentally to major wars with tens of thousands of bodies even hunders of thousands men coming back dead. Thousands of young men survering PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, lost limbs and worse. The time of the most importan basic questions is now.
