I sat down Friday evening last, alongside my dear wife, and as paterfamilias to my 10-year-old progeny, and partook of the adventures of one Ulysses Everett McGill and his traveling companions Pete and Delmar. for anyone not familiar, their travels and trvails are recounted in the motion picture O Brother Where Art Thou (a certain classic for the ages).
With a fire in the hearth and a pleasing odor wafting from the warm light (half the point, should you ask yours truly), the evening set out falteringly with several interruptions from the squabbling children of ages 7 and 2½. Once time had passed for their retirement, set deliberately earlier than our own, for reasons familiar to any parent, our trio was able to enjoy the latter half of the presentation nearly uninterrupted.
As the conclusion of the exciting tale moved ever closer, events within the unfolding story reminded me of certain real-life events happening at just this time. If you care to seek the treasure with me, come along...
