That was the first debate I have ever felt truly nauseous after watching, and I’ve watched all the presidential debates since 1976. That’s a whole lot of debates, a truckload of political blathering, some high points, some low of course, but there has been nothing, I mean nothing like last night’s spectacle. I have a million times more respect and admiration for HRC that she did not waver in her commitment to us, to our country, even though she knew what Trump was going to attempt last night, she powered right on through. The cool, icy determination she tapped into was a thing of beauty. She stood there on that debate stage and carried on with the business of running for president, connecting with the voters who were asking questions, giving informed, considered answers all the while he loomed and sneered (and sniffed) behind her.
At several points I admit I truly felt alarm for her physical safety, because he was enraged, and *right there* in her space. He seemed so unhinged because she didn’t take his bait, instead she dismantled him by ignoring it and dismissing all of it. It was terrifying to watch, because I’ve been there, and when men get angry (especially big men), even in supposedly professional situations, you never know what they’re going to do. You have to weigh the risks, hope for the best and try and ignore it.
HRC has her priorities straight, she has no time for falling into petty tit for tat, she’s waiting at another level, ready to be our president. I just wish she’d had a worthy opponent, you know? Someone worth sparring with in a debate, someone that followed at least some of the rules while playing the most important game in the world.
When I think about all the craziness that led up to this debate, the Trump Tape, the accusing women photo-op, I just feel sick to my stomach that this supremely qualified candidate had to go through that experience. That our first female major party presidential candidate had to endure this humiliating spectacle just shows how unbalanced the scales truly are for men and women even at that level of power. She survived though, she didn’t give up, and how can you not admire the hell out of that?
I’m With Her.
