Something has been worrying me a little over the last week or so watching the gaps close and momentum beginning to shift back towards the blue spectrum. What happens after the elections? I don't mean the obvious about inaugurations and the continuation of GOP obstructionism. How will the fervent Tea Party folks react to defeat? They don't seem the type to take it sitting down.
Without a doubt there will be backlash. Mostly in the form of election fraud accusations from the crowd that still can't accept that President Obama is a US citizen. I wonder how far they will take it though. Could the frenzy of last autumn seem like a little girls tea party in comparison to what is ahead of us if the Red Tide fails to wash ashore.
Do I believe that political violence will be the norm? Of course not. However, given our history even in the last 50 years, can we safely rule such things out? Will the likes of Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh continue to whip their viewers and listeners into a blind frenzy? Just how bad will things get? More likely we'll see ever more rowdy demonstrations and heated rhetoric coming from the right-wing noise machines.
