As Kentucky’s junior senator, Rand Paul, isolates himself after having voted against COVID-19 relief for his constituents, his governor continues to shine bright with his handling of the virus situation on the ground.
Governor Andy Beshear’s warm demeanor and inspiring words to Kentuckians has manifested in a Facebook meme group, andy beshear memes for social distancing teens, that has gone “viral” all on it’s own. (Full disclosure, I’m friends with the two guys who created the group.)
Started this past Friday, the group now has over 70,000 members and continues to grow with over a thousand posts every day. The groups mission statement:
Governor Andy Beshear has been putting in the work to lead and reassure the people of KY during this unprecedented crisis. We are all experiencing uncertain times now. Let's stay positive and enjoy some wholesomeness by making and sharing memes about Andy!
During the governor’s daily 5pm Facebook live update this Sunday, he even gave a shout out to the meme group during the Q&A and the group lost it’s collective mind:
Q: Have you seen the meme fan page on Facebook with over 40,000 followers?
A: If it makes people smile right now, I’m for it.
Local, state, and national press have taken notice as well: Lexington Herald-Leader, WTHR, WLKY, The Boondocks Gazette, Salon, Louisville Courier-Journal.
Here are just a few of the 1000’s of memes that members have contributed:
