I Don't Beg Well

by PsychoSavannah

Never have.  But this is for my grandson.  He is part of a tech club at his high school.  They have made it to the national championship in Dallas for the Technology Student Association (TSA - ironic acronym, yes?) and have no support from their school district.  They are holding fundraisers, but we don't live in an affluent area and you can only sell so many spaghetti dinner tickets to the same people again and again.

If you are so inclined, here is a GoFundMe page we set up for his group so they can all attend.  As it stands right now, only 9 of the kids can go, strictly because the $1300 price tag is just too high for many of the families.  My daughter's goal is modest....she has had the thing up on facebook and it has garnered some support.  Since I know the folks at dkos are a generous lot, thought I'd post it here too.  We need to cash out early next week, so any help you would like to give would be very, very much appreciated

Republican 2016 Polling

by PsychoSavannah

Because I can, and do, vote in the republican primaries here in South Carolina, I am on a call list for polling for the republicans.  Got a call this morning (at church time on Jesus day, for fuck's sake!) and was amused by the choices.

BIG edit:   the person testifying at the Congressional hearing about Ebola today was Daniel Varga, the Chief CLINICAL Officer, not the CEO.  Which is almost worse since he's in charge of the medical side of everything!

Asked if any on-site and in-person training took place at his hospital after receiving the CDC alerts on July 28, the {not CEO} Chief Clinical Officer of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital finally admitted "No."

Not much of a diary as the hearings are not over, but the heart of the matter was exposed early on.

So, to review:

and the extremists they are in bed with, this ought to answer it.  It's the latest email solicitation from the assholes.  The actual email had a bunch of pictures in it of past speakers (Oliver North (arms-seller to Iran!), Sara Palin (um, just too much fail to go into), Rick Perry (oops!), Newty Gingrich, and Snott Walker).  This is rather tame for the NRA propaganda, but they do get their fear-mongering on.

"We need a zillion of you there!" and the next breath "Get tickets now as space is limited".  It's just amazing to me that people fall for this shit.  See below for the email.

Changing Ideas about Cars?

by PsychoSavannah

I've been posting the beginnings of an idea in some of the oil spill diaries, trying so hard to find ways to begin America down a path of alternative energy.  I have no idea if this idea has any merit, but it sounds like a start and I'd love to get some feedback about the hurdles and pitfalls.

Insurance and Credit Card Reform

by PsychoSavannah

I've waded into the "debate" about the Senate health insurance reform bill and have been going back and forth about its potential effectiveness.  I won't fool myself into believing we can get anything better with the current crop of obstructionist republicans in the Senate, especially when you put them beside the conservadems we are cursed with.

But, as I opened our mail today, I opened a few "change in agreement" notices from a couple of credit card companies.  And it brought me back to the fairly vehement "debate" on this site while the credit card protection act was being discussed here.

"At least we still have a job"

by PsychoSavannah

A refrain that is heard every single day, and uttered by more of the people I know more and more often.

"At least I still have a job."

A List for Distribution

by PsychoSavannah

I've been leaving versions of the following information all over my the grocery store carts, the produce section among the melons and Vidalia onions, at the Jiffy Lube, dentist and doctor's offices among the magazines, and in the bars in which I play pool.  It is simple.  It does not scream "activism" which, here in the South, would never fly.  But people will pick up a piece of paper and read it.

A few people here have asked for this, here is one of the simplest.  Please add, subtract, and re-word to fit the citzenry in your area of the world.  I keep it in a Word document and use many different versions, depending on the venue.

Dear Bush-supporter:

Look hard at what is happening in New Orleans.  Look very hard, because it is the direct result of your vote.

You, and every other person that voted for George W. Bush (TWICE), are directly to blame for the response to this disaster.  The reasons are glaring and numerous.
