As the president of a 700+ member United Steelworkers local union in Philadelphia, nothing (well, probably a lot of things... lol) has galled me more than seeing the McPalin campaign brag about the first dude's mebership in my union.
If being the spouse of a USW member qualifies a person for the second highest office in our country, then I demand that all 850,000 of our spouses be interviewed. At least 90% of our members spouses would be better suited for the job. You betcha! Also, it's not as if union membership guarantees that a person has working family issues first and foremost on their agenda. Sadly, only one POTUS in our history has also been a union president. Any guesses? You betcha it was Ronald Reagan! Say it ain't so, Joe!
In the extended entry, I am posting an article written by United Steelworkers President Leo W. Gerard, one of the most progressive union leaders in America today.
