Well, let Joe Klein tell you all about it. Before I get started though, I’d like to point out that despite my stance on Hillary and the fact that she is mentioned in this diary, this is not an article about Hillary or Bernie. I’m working hard to steer it away from that direction. It’s more an article about the entire party and the surrounding ecosystem.
The short version is that Hillary went to do a Town Meeting in Salem, N.H. and she didn’t get asked the questions she wanted to be asked. She was ready, willing, and able to talk about ISIS and foreign policy. But instead:
What were the questions about? Genetically modified food. Climate change. Gun control. Whether ExxonMobil suppressed information about carbon pollution. Voting rights. Mental health. Student loans. Immigration (family preservation, not border control). Preserving Social Security and Medicare. Taking care of veterans (with the assumption that veterans are victims of the military-industrial complex).
Hillary, I presume, answered the questions as well as she could and…
Several times Clinton tried to steer her answers toward the topic, but the crowd resisted.
From this, our intrepid reporter concludes that both Democrats and liberals are utter morons who have no idea what their concerns ought to be and, for some bewildering reason, refused to be told what they are.
Now, some of these are important issues. But the Democrats’ unwillingness to think, or ask, about the single most immediate threat to our country was stunning—or perhaps, all too predictable.
He’s stunned, STUNNED I tell you! This, I’m afraid, is exactly the perception I have of the entire Democratic apparatus including it’s extended outreach program in the form of this monument to arrogance, Joe Klein. In my opinion, this is exactly why the Democratic party is vulnerable to the likes of Donald Trump. Perhaps the voters feel that the Very Serious People have screwed up pretty thoroughly and would prefer to give them marching orders than take orders… you know… like in a representative Democracy?
Does Joe Klein represent the entire Democratic party? Of course he doesn’t. He’s an employee of Time Magazine. But man that piece I linked above sure resonated for me.
(and there you have it, my very first diary and it didn’t touch Hillary, Bernie, or the oligarchy… whodathunk?)
