I'm Disappointed in Daily Kos

by Spinnuh

Last night I was at a bar with some friends having a couple of drinks, and we were discussing which party is more tolerant and which party is more hateful. They would talk about a couple of the forums they visited as conservatives to discuss political issues, and I mentioned I enjoyed many of the analytical diaries and analytical members here at Daily Kos.

As an experiment we each went on the forums of our choosing, theirs the conservative forums, mine Daily Kos, and we just posted one simple statement knowing the majority of the community would disagree with. We wanted to see which forum would yield the largest number of hateful or degrading comments.

My post said that rich people already pay too much in taxes and that no one should receive tax refunds until the national debt is paid off. Obviously an outrageous statement, but it was one that the majority of people here would disagree with. Their post on the conservative websites was just a simple argument in favor of a ban on certain assault rifles. We were each allowed to comment four to five times in response to the first few comments to get the "conversation" going.

I was sad to see that the diary I posted yielded over 100 comments with slim to none of them not hateful or degrading.

Is the Democratic party the new party of intolerance and hate?

I wish that when an independent or conservative came on this website to discuss a different point of view they weren't bombarded by a flurry of egotistical, overbearing snobs acting much like the ones you see who report the news for Fox News.

Why Gun Control Doesn't Work

by Spinnuh

Let's just pretend the government implements a law that demands all citizens to forfeit their assault rifles. Let's pretend, after this law is implemented, that the penalty of not forfeiting your assault rifle is 15 years in prison if an assault rifle is discovered to be in your possession. Then, let's consider the crime we would be trying to prevent: Mass Murder. Now, let's consider the much harsher penalty that is already implemented regarding first degree murder: Up to life in prison or the death sentence. So, we must ask ourselves, "Should we be under some impression that a person who would disregard a punishment of life in prison would respect a law that could risk them 15 years in prison?" Mass killers take drastic measures to wreak havoc. Obtaining an illegal weapon would not be such a surprising law for them to break.

Four Blogs Needing Your Feedback

by Spinnuh

I need the Daily Kos corp of genius to tell me what is and what isn't wrong with my four blogs. You have time to read them. I know you do. It's my feeble attempt at satire. I know some people won't understand the points of the articles, but you guys will.

Faith is always an important subject during Republican conventions and during Republican primary debates to determine who is worthy enough and convicted enough by God to lead this country. Until this point, it was always perplexing to some why faith in God would matter so much to a party that ignores some of the most important teachings of the God they are so adamant about believing in.

But, I've finally found some answers. A Republican friend of mine asked me to join him attending a fundraiser for the Republican running to be a state representative in his county. Being the open-minded individual I am, I accepted the invitation.

As we entered, there was a greeter at the door passing out Bibles. You know, the same way they do at the gay pride parades to heal all of the homos. But this one was different. On the cover it said The RIV Bible. I asked the greeter, "What's the RIV Bible? I've never heard of this before." He responded, "Ah, it's the Republican International Version. It's kind of like our own denomination. There's already too many to keep count of, so what's one more going to hurt?" I couldn't help but agree, and I began to read Matthew.

In the book of Matthew of the RIV version, there's a couple of interesting interpretations of the verses I read growing up as a child:

Matthew 5:38-42 You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' And I tell you, this much is true. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, then sock them on their right cheek. If someone kills you, kill them back. If someone wants to sue you for $400, then hire a lawyer. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you and their credit score shall determine how much interest you shall charge.

Matthew 6:5-8 And when you pray, do be like the righteous, as they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, the more hypocrites who see you pray, the larger the reward. So when you pray, go onto a stage, invite all of your supporters and charge an admission so that everyone can see. Then your Father who sees what is done in public, will reward you. And when you pray drag out your requests and speak as long as you'd like out loud because your Father knows not what you need before you ask him.

Matthew 7:1-2 Do not judge , or you too will be judged. So I say to you, if you just cannot withstand to judge your brother or sister use this phrase, "Hate the sin, not the sinner" As this is something I have said several times before.

Matthew 10:34-37 Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law a man's enemies will be the members of his own household. (Surprisingly enough this was just as it read in the versions I read as a kid. This one wasn't translated differently at all.)

Matthew 19:16-26 A man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" Jesus said obey the commandments if you want to enter life. "Which ones though?" asked the man. Jesus told him, Don't murder, don't steal, honor your father and mother, and love your neighbor as yourself. "Well I've done all these things." responded the man. Then Jesus said to him that if he wants to be perfect to go sell of his possessions and give to the poor, because charitable donations are tax-deductible anyways. Then Jesus turned to the group and said, "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." When the group heard this they gasped, "Who then can be saved? We're all so rich." Then, Jesus, remembering that most of his followers were very rich responded, "Well it certainly is a task for a rich man to enter into heaven, but with God all things are possible. Carry on. But still sell all your possessions if you want to be perfect and give to the poor. But if you don't want to, that's okay. Because of God."

Matthew 6:1-4 Be sure to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you don't, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. So when you give to the needy, make out an outrageously large check that should be held by yourself and the recipient for a photo opp. And when you give to the needy take your right hand and your left hand and grasp them together and shake them over your head. Then, your father, who sees what is done in public, will reward you.

After reading the RIV version of the Bible, I immediately forgot about all of the versions I had read before. I finally understood why faith was so important to the Republican party.

The Coolest Step Dad

by Spinnuh

This is a story about the Alexander family.

Mr and Mrs. Alexander are divorced.

Mrs. Alexander is remarried. To Thomas.

They have two kids, Billy and Joey.

Mr. Alexander had to spend a lot of money that he didn't have on lawyers during the divorce, and during the settlement he also had to give a large sum of money to his wife. He had to apply for a credit card to cover most of the expenses or else he would have been late on his mortgage and car payments. He didn't want to lose his house, and he didn't want to lose his car. He got to keep the kids.

Mr. Alexander sat down with Billy and Joey after the divorce and explained to them that they are going to have to cut back a little over the next couple of years, so he could pay off the debt on the credit card. Mr. Alexander regularly put 15% of each paycheck into savings, but now to pay off the credit card he puts 25% of each paycheck aside.

Billy and Joey visited Mrs. Alexander and their step-dad Thomas a couple of times a week for dinner or to go to the park. During one visit, Mrs. Alexander asked how Mr. Alexander was doing. Billy told her that they don't go out for dinner and a movie as much anymore, because Mr. Alexander said they have to save some money to pay off the credit card. Joey said that normally Dad would put aside 15% of his paycheck and spend the rest on fun stuff, but now he puts 25% aside so there's not as much money for fun stuff. Thomas thought that this was absolutely ridiculous. He told Billy and Joey that if he was their Dad he would even put aside less, 10% to be exact, for savings and spend the rest on fun stuff. Billy and Joey thought that was awesome.

When Billy and Joey got home, they had a talk with Mr. Alexander. "Dad," they said "Why do you want to put more money aside to pay off the credit card?" Mr. Alexander told the kids that it's a pretty basic concept. He said, "Sometimes in life, shit happens, and to keep the roof over their head I had to pay for the cost of the divorce with a credit card. And now I have to pay that money back. After I pay off the credit card, we can start doing more fun stuff like we used to do." Billy and Joey thought this sounded pretty stupid. They said, "Thomas told us that he would save even less than you were originally saving if something like that happened to him." Mr. Alexander asked them how exactly that would work. Billy and Joey didn't know.

The next time Billy and Joey went to visit Mrs. Alexander and Thomas they asked Thomas how he would put less money aside and still pay off the credit card. Thomas told the kids not to worry so much about the details, but he just reminded them that if he was their dad that is what he would do. Billy and Joey liked that. They liked the thought of doing more fun stuff. Billy and Joey wished they lived with Thomas and Mom, because Thomas is more fun and would spend more money on fun stuff.

When Billy and Joey got home, they had another talk with Mr. Alexander. They said "Dad, we had a talk with Thomas about why he would put less money aside even if he had a credit card to pay off and how exactly that would work." Mr. Alexander said, "Oh really and how did he say that would work?" The kids responded, "Well he didn't really say, but he said he could and would do it. He's the coolest step-dad ever. Why can't you be more like him?" Mr. Alexander told the kids that if he was in fact their step-dad hoping for their approval by saying whatever they want to hear disregarding how little sense it made, then maybe he would be more like him.

The Useless War on Drugs

by Spinnuh

In 2009, the National Survey on Drug Use and health conducted a survey to determine how many people who were at least twelve years old smoked marijuana at least once in the month before. 16.7 million Americans reported that they had. Now, let's pretend that just 12 million of the people who participated in the survey smoked just one ounce of weed in a year, and keep in mind that this is a very conservative amount of marijuana for an entire year. Some heavy smokers will go through an ounce in two weeks. So, we are being conservative when it comes to the number of people who will one ounce of weed in a year while we are also being conservative by using an ounce of marijuana a year.

Now the price of an ounce will vary depending on where you live and the quality of the marijuana. An ounce of swag can go for $60-$80 while an ounce of Dro can go for anywhere between $300-$400. Just for calculating purposes we will say that the average cost of an ounce of marijuana is $200. So we take $200 and multiply it by the conservative figure of the 12 million people who will smoke just one ounce of marijuana in a year.

That amounts to 2.4 BILLION dollars in one year which is probably a very conservative number.

If we are more realistic and say that 13.5 million people smoke on average just two ounces of marijuana in a year the figure comes out to be 5.4 BILLION dollars in sales. That would a huge new industry that would create jobs during a time when our country so desperately needs them. It would be an enormous new source of tax revenue when at a time when our country so desperately needs tax revenue as well.

When we take into account that in 2008 the tax revenue generated by tobacco was 16.5 billion dollars just from the tax on sales alone, you can get an idea of how much of an effect legalizing marijuana can have on the U.S. debt which is already beyond outrageous.

Let's just say that legalizing marijuana would generate 10 billion dollars of tax revenue a year. That sure doesn't sound like much when you take into account the fact that the U.S. is in debt now for a sum of 14 trillion dollars but you have to start somewhere.

Once legalized there are other externalities that would benefit society and lessen our defecit.

Take into account these things:

1) The defense and border control spending we could save as the drug cartels in Mexico would be greatly weakened after we began to strengthen our own economy instead of strengthening their cartels by selling our citizens what they are going to get one way or the other. Is it really worth the lives of those brutally murdered by the drug cartels to criminalize individuals for using a substance that "could be a gateway drug"?

2) The outrageous amount of money we spend to incarcerate individuals who have done nothing wrong besides smoke pot. I'm not saying that marijuana is the only reason that someone is in prison for drug use, but FIFTY PERCENT of the people in prison are there because of drug use. That means 50% of the money we spend on prisons is because of drugs including marijuana. I also don't want my tax money to pay the police man's salary who is performing a sting operation on the corner of the street by selling marijuana to an unsuspecting customer.

Our war on drugs is a complete and utter failure. It is a total waste of our tax dollars, and today we don't have tax dollars to waste. During times like these it shouldn't even be an option whether or not we spend our tax money to criminalize one who smokes marijuana or create money by legalizing it. It's not going away. Should we keep wasting money or should we start making money? That's the question every American has to ask themselves, and if you believe it's time to start making money then you need to be loud about it. Because Washington can't hear us.

And we aren't even talking about how much of the deficit we could make up if the government discontinued to give a damn about whether or not I play a $20 Texas Hold Em tournament on my computer.

Let Us Pray

by Spinnuh

Now please, bow your heads with me.

"Dear heavenly Father, our Lord God, Jesus Christ, Creator of all things, Master of the Universe, we ask you for your blessing today. Please make yourself known in this place today. However, please spare us for the next three to four minutes as I don't care what the Bible says about what I'm doing now. Yes Lord, you and I both know that I along with my congregation here today have read Matthew 6:5-6 where we are told to go into our closets and close the door when we pray instead of praying to be seen of men like the hypocrites. But we know, somewhere, somehow, you meant to say that it is okay to do it on Sunday mornings. And yes I know in the very next verse we are told to not babble like the Pagans but please, oh God, Heir of all things, Author of our faith, look at this way. Rick Perry and his crew are praying for much longer than I am today in a much more public place in front of 30,000 people, while there are only 2,400 here who judging by their tithing practices average an annual income of about $9,000. And I know, because I watch Fox News, that you have blessed him.

We, here in this place, know how much our lengthy and babbly prayers mean to you. For just last week, after many weeks praying for rain in West Texas, you sent us a couple of inches. We thank you for answering our prayers, as we know you are omnipresent and could have been curing patients of AIDS or cancer, but whose prayers did you answer? Because we here are your people, you have answered our prayers. Here we lower taxes, because we know it's WTF Jesus would have done. We love the homosexuals but hate their homosexuality for being gay is less tolerable of a sin than those that we in this congregation commit. Because all sins are not created equal, okay? Let's just get that straight with the world oh Lord because someone screwed that up in translation. We know you shook your head when I mentioned curing patients of AIDS, because we know as well as you do that you have created the incurable disease to punish the gays for their sins.

We want to pray for the Democrats and President Obama today Lord God, Almighty on High. For they spend their time encouraging higher taxes instead of cutting useless programs like Medicare and Medicaid. They believe prayer should not be allowed in school, but I don't see what the big problem is. All of us Christians, except for when we are at church on Sundays or prayer group on Wednesdays, follow Christ's direction for prayer. I'm positive we are all praying away from others, in private, like we are supposed to be, so how does anyone even know if Christians are praying in school oh God?!? Because I did see that one girl who did pray during that one speech at that one graduation ceremony and said she was practicing her freedom of speech and religion. But Lord God my Savior, I do not know what religion she was practicing because it surely wasn't Christianity. Because, we know how to pray when it's not Sunday. But please just as you did for your enemies on the cross, we forgive the Democrats for they know not what they are doing.

We ask these things in the name of the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit,

Amen............ For now............ The Worship Leader will talk to you again before he does his thing, then brother Frank will talk to you before he does the offering thing, and then we will talk one more time before I dismiss these guys......"

You may be seated.

The first Republican Presidential debate of the 2012 campaign race was last night. The candidates of the party who are against big government when it comes to their pocketbooks but support government's involvement in determining the nation's morals. We like the government to step in and say no to a homosexual couple trying to marry, or a college kid playing online poker in his dorm instead of pledging, or a cancer patient who finds a tiny bit of relief while smoking cannabis, or a 16 year old girl who was raped by a thug with AIDS who might decide not to give birth to a child with terminal illness from the day she was born. Other than that we don't need the government involved in our lives.

Now, the most hypocritical candidate who seems to contradict herself the most, so far, in my opinion is Michele Bachmann; so there's a good chance she will move up in the polls very rapidly. Last night, for one, we heard her say that as president she would support changing the Constitution to define marriage as only between a man and a woman, but she wouldn't go into states like New Hampshire and make them change their laws regrading same sex marriage. So, we know she wants to amend the constitution to no longer leave it up to the states which is how the issue is handled right now. But she claims she also wants to leave it up to states like New Hampshire. She makes a great deal of sense. She believes in the 10th amendment, but she doesn't.

We also got to hear some of her reasoning behind not allowing homosexuals to marry if she were to become president. (Besides the apparent reason that in her party you have to at least pretend like you hate the gays) She affirms that the best way for a child to be raised is by a father and a mother. Because it's common sense that a homosexual couple can have children and that's the primary reason they want to be recognized as a person and marry....... Oh yes, that's right, they could adopt. But we now know how horrible of parents homosexual couples, so let's leave them in the orphanage. Let's leave them in the adoption centers. It's what the kids would want. I know it's what the kids need, because Michele Bachmann said so.

We do know that the success rate of a man and woman marrying each other is very high right now. About 50 to 55 marriages out of 100 won't end in divorce. That's pretty amazing. That's like 90% right? So we know if a man and woman marry each other; they will most likely stay together long enough to raise their children through adulthood. And they will do a damn good job at doing it because there is one man and one woman raising the children. It's so traditional. As a child I would have definitely preferred to be raised by a drug dealing pimp and his favorite trick rather than a male English professor and a male Zookeeper. Now as an adult, I feel like I might prefer to be raised by the professor and zookeeper; but I know it would have been horrible because Michele Bachmann said so.

I'm so inspired by people like Michele who will stand up to the gays, and the single mothers, and the single fathers and tell them they aren't doing a good enough job raising the children. They should have been more traditional; then they would be able to provide the childhood their kids deserve.

To sum it up what I learned from Michele Bachmann last night is:

1) One man + One woman = Dream Team Parenting

2) We should leave the gay marriage up to states, but we shouldn't leave  it up to states.

3) God has probably forgiven Michele for her divorce, because she still seems pretty traditional.

I'd like to shed light on an issue that has gone unnoticed for far too long. It is about time that something was done about a "recreational hobby" that is ruining lives all over the country. I urge Congress to take action and the people of the United States to rise against this obsession American people have with Golf. Those who play it tend to call it recreation or fun, but it's clear now that it is more of an addiction.

Think about how much better it would be for our country if so much money wasn't spent on green fees or country club fees. It would be great for the economy. These golfers are distracted at work; reading golf magazines, thinking about when they can get out on the course next. It would clearly improve employees production at work and focus.I can't think of anything golf provides for our country that is good. Most of the golf carts these players use aren't even gas powered.

Everyone knows that a significant percentage of the people who play golf also put money on the line against their friends when they play the game. If this was such a friendly game then why are people losing so much money and drinking so much alcohol why they play???? I heard on some courses little whores with short shorts go around serving married men beer. I mean that's basically the definition of immoral. However, not as immoral as the thousands of people who skip church on Sunday to play the game. They're out there saying the "F Word" when they shoot a bad shot. What The Freaking Heck is wrong with these people? Once we finally admit that anyone who plays golf should be criminally charged, that's when we will see so many less financial lives ruined. I mean, I've heard of people who can't control themselves on the golf course. Betting $10, $11, up to even $12.50 a hole. People will buy their children a less expensive birthday gift just so they can afford their country club fees and their wagers. This just isn't right people.

I understand that some of you will claim this is a game of skill, but I mean come on; you cannot control the wind. There is a large amount of luck involved. You can aim for the fairway or the green, but once you actually swing the club you just have to hope for the best. You cannot just will the ball into the hole. So when it comes down to it, it's still a game of chance. That's why the number of people who buy golf books, take golf lessons, and watch golf on television is about the same as how many people buy books about playing roulette, and take roulette lessons, and watch roulette on ESPN.

So, it's clear we have to take a stand for America. Let's get these addicts of gambling and lust who call themselves golfers back home to their families where they belong before they kill themselves or harm society even more. Criminalize Golf.

For The Bible Tells Me So

by Spinnuh

Last Sunday, I guess I forgot to set my alarm clock and woke up to find that it was 10:50 in the morning. I couldn't believe it. I hadn't missed church in years, so I set out to make this right. Most days I slip a little and don't live my life according to the Bible at times, so I told myself that since I missed church I would live exactly how the Bible says to live for the rest of the day.

So I set out to fulfill my mission.

Hey Soul Sister

by Spinnuh

Hey guys, I'm back again to lighten the mood for all you political powerhouses.

So take a break from all of the political discussion that I have a hard time understanding since I'm not as smart as you, and just kick back and watch me jam out during one of my Happy Wednesday Jam Sessions. Believe me, it's worth it. I'm freaking awesome.

I'm going to attempt to embed the video in the body of this diary, but like I said I'm not very smart so I don't know if it will work.
