Interesting note, that I originally saw from a post on Buzzflash, was that George Romney, Mitt Romney's father, was on welfare early in his life, according to a 1962 video of an interview with Mitt Romney's mother as George Romney was running for Governor. See the clip (the welfare comment is at :55 ish):
I know many people in Michigan and elsewhere are waking to the news that Chrysler is filing for bankruptcy protection. You will hear very little information on the bankruptcy process, so as a creditors' attorney who does some work in bankruptcy courts, I thought I might give the DKOS community a little Chapter 11 primer. More below the fold.
This thread is for those that have already voted.
I'm one of those Americans that has voted in 6 Presidential elections and my vote has never officially "counted" in the Presidential race. I have voted for the Democratic nominee since Michael Dukakis inspired me in 1988, and each year Texas has chosen electors to the electoral college that did not vote for my candidate. So technically, I've voted in each primary and each general election since 1988, but I've never had a vote in the electoral college.
This year, in my sixth election, it is still the same. The electoral college, in my estimation, actually supports the Republican regime. For an African American to even be close at this stage means that this country is changing. Change is happening, it is not something that just comes after the election.

As a background for those that don't know me, I'm pretty progressive in my beliefs, but I'm not a pacifist, I am not allergic to money, and I'm a small business owner who previously was a work a day stiff in the professional services industry. I represent businesses all the time, but I'm pretty open with most clients about my political views (when it naturally comes up...which it does when they see my framed Bill Clinton inauguration invitation). I'm fortunate to live in Austin, Texas, which is a progressive enough town that I'm more likely to get business being progressive than swimming upstream. I was an Obama early adopter, and I'm a technology early adopter as well. But I wanted Wes Clark to win in 2004 since I knew Kerry would not win in rural areas. And I am UID: 17276, which means although I'm an infrequent diarist, I've been reading this site for a fairly long time.
Here's how a guy like me reviews the RNC convention, who watched it on the teevee...after the break...
There are discussions going on TPM and other sites related to whether Obama voters will vote for Clinton in the GE, and whether Clinton voters will vote for Obama in the GE. Of course, that may mean Nader or McCain pulls from these folks. Just thought I'd get it started with a poll and see what comments others have on this topic.

Been a true Blue in a Red state for quite some time...so it made me proud to see, not the 12 people that showed up for the 2004 caucus, not the 8 people that showed up for the 2000 caucus, and not the 3 people that showed up for the 1996 caucus. There were over 400 people in attendance in precinct 360. End result, +/-57% Obama, +/-42% Clinton...More after the flip.
The CO Viges sums it up like this, when watching Christ suffer in the movie Passion of the Christ,
"I saw the amount of pain he was going through, that he knew he was going to die and still prayed for the people doing it to him," Viges said. That ideal, he thought, was inconsistent with military service.

John Ellis Bush, 21, was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of Trinity and Sixth streets near the downtown entertainment district. He was released around 10:30 a.m. today on a personal recognizance bond. Bail had been set at $2,500.
...
TABC Capt. David Ferrero said Bush approached a group of TABC and Austin police officers and asked about an earlier arrest of people he knew and was observed to be intoxicated. Agents did not know his identity until after they had arrested him and looked at his driver's license, which was issued from Florida.
He would not be more specific about how Bush was behaving.
I'm thinking Jeb needs to retire to "spend a little more time with his family"...
