Last year 858,408 people were arrested for Marijuana violations. This is a 1.3% increase of arrest reported by the FBI since 2008. Approximately 52% of drug arrest in the US comprised of Marijuana, a decade ago it was 44%. 758,593 of those 858,408 were arrested for possession, this arrest total is second highest in US history. In 2007, 872,721 people were arrested for violating Marijuana laws which constitutes the highest arrest record in American history, as reported by the FBI.
I called Joe Miller's Anchorage campaign office, and was greeted with a female's voice. I asked her how Joe Miller views the minimum wage and whether he thinks it should be raised. She said she would rather have me speak to someone else on the matter. So she gave the phone to some guy, who turned out to be Joe Miller's father.
Oh, that was a surprise. He seemed like a nice guy, so I asked him the same question:
"How does Joe Miller view the minimum wage, and does he think it should be raised?"
He responded with a bunch of gobbledygook about how he doesn't agree with the federal government and it's overreaching arms. It's out of control spending etc. You know the talking points, but he stumbled when he said the federal government tries to make every state have the same minimum wage.
Oh this is just too funny, hilarious even. Under FEC laws if you run a campaign you must have a campaign treasurer to manage campaign spending. This just keeps getting better and better, Sarah Palin and the GOP really have their hands tied with this one.
The way Christine O'Donnell has been making her living is by campaigning, 3 months after her campaign last year she made a 475 dollar check labeled as mileage reimbursement. 600 bucks for her utility bill, she even went out to eat at Ruby Tuesdays and charged her campaign $26.
All those wonderful donations she gathered during her campaign, all those Republicans who gave away their money to get her elected ended up being used in the most hypocritical way, it's ridiculous. Remember, the government is teh evil and she's fighting against government waste and liberal spending . . . Yeah, right.
Elizabeth Warren supposedly wanted what some people are calling President Obama a sellout and a coward for.
I won't call any users out, but a search for Elizabeth Warren will bring you a whole host of diaries with comments praising her and calling the President a coward, saying he fucked up by not doing things their way. But what happens when the subject itself approves of the way she is getting her position, and also wanted it to be that way. Have any of you read the Huffpost article titled: Elizabeth Warren Didn't Want Permanent Appointment To CFPB: Frank. This isn't some unnamed source either, it's Barney "frickin" Frank, who is a friend, admirer and supporter of Ms. Warren. Here's what he had to say.
***I'm looking for a discussion on Race matters, I don't want to offend anybody, but I am curious about Reverse Racism.
Also, I understand that the term Reverse Racism is actually meaningless from one commenter, but from another the term means something much more. It means atonement for many racist whites who think Black people as a whole want to seek revenge on what their ancestors did. No, that is not true. MLK Jr. told us we need to move past color and think of ourselves as one.
There is only racism, bigotry, and hatred. But we must remember also, that hate and racism is passed down from generation to generation.***
That's what it seems like, when you take in to account the fact that Ms. Sherrod's father was murdered by a white man who was never convicted. A classical tale of institutionalized racism, and it still happens today.
But, normal Black people like me, (the type of Black person who hasn't experienced hate and racism on the level of Ms. Sherrod) have a hard time having a conversation with a white person on racism.
When you pass an ordinance in your state, don't expect things to be alright even though you aren't doing anything illegal. It is obvious that the people who run the Drug Enforcement Agency can't be bothered with a little thing called justice, but they also don't give a damn if what you are doing is legal by your state:
"I don’t care what the sheriff says."
Was said by the DEA agent in charge after a Mendocino County, California resident obtained legal rights "to grow up to 99 plants provided they comply with certain regulations."
A damning article on how Wachovia laundered $380 billion in drug money was discovered by Bloomberg's Michael Smith. Wachovia execs looked the other way as "the bank was moving money behind literally tons of cocaine from violent drug cartels." If it were not for internal whistleblowers this would have never seen the light of day.
But as the violence in Mexico gets worse day after day, the drug cartels grow stronger. The only thing stopping these profits, the only thing that will make the violence stop, is to put them out of business.
By legalizing Marijuana first, as the cannabis plant is 60% of the cartel's profits. After that, legalize all drugs as the American tolerance for legalization will have grown.
Michelle Bachmann is trying to create a new caucus, where she'll be chairwoman.
I was watching Ed and he spoke of how Bachmann wants to form a:
Tea Party Caucus!
Ho . . . Ly . . . Shit!
It's All About the Wages -- Our Economy Would Be Fine If Everyone Made Their Fair Share is a lengthy article on how America's wages have declined and helped hurt the middle class by Robert Reich.
Right, only after the outrage that's been boiling for the past couple months spilled over onto the stove.
A foreign company causes a disaster on our shores and they are able to dictate to our press the terms of their coverage. It's obvious to anybody paying attention that BP here is trying to handle their already horrendous PR situation by limiting the amount of coverage on the spill and it's effects on the area.
Not only that but they also aren't providing their cleanup workers adequate safety equipment.
Well there's one reason you wouldn't want to have reporters documenting the response.
We need to get past this divisiveness. But who am I?
On the scale of things, I'm a relative nobody, but only for right now.
I feel like this country can be way more than what we are today, and I also feel the same for this site.
But what am I supposed to do when I'm being torn apart from all of the damn fighting?
That's just what it is, we on this site used to stand for something, but all we are now is:
Who stands by the President?
Who stands against him?
So I ask this community, who will stand by our current President Barack Obama?
Now, expect a shit storm from the left, center, and right for an end to the decades long, failed war on drugs, or, the freedom to use drugs. Because if this latest shootout is what over 1 trillion dollars brings combating the usage and illegal production of drugs, then it's time we legalized all drugs and finally help out our neighbors to the south.
Who was it that said trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the mark of insanity?
