Here is an Update on Connecticut Govenor Malloy’s nomination for the State Supreme Court. The GOP is playing the usual political games they play. The State Senate is expected to vote down his nomination today or sometime this week. Why? The GOP is saying it’s due to his ruling alone with other Supreme Justices to do away with the Death Penalty. Other’s say they are voting against him because he is Gay. Fact is the GOP voted to put him on the Supreme Court originally knowing both of these things. My thought is since they have the power now to vote him down they are doing so for all those reasons and a few more.
1. They are voting him down because they can.
2. They are thinking the GOP has a fair chance of winning the Governorship coming up in November and want to get their guy on the court. This is what I think the actual reason is. I give the CT GOP more credit than the GOP in the US Senate. At least they are holding a vote, but the Democrat’s control the agenda and are forcing the vote. Maybe the GOP would play as dirty as the GOP in the US Senate if they controlled the agenda.
3. They get a 3fer on this vote, since they do want Justices that put people to death and they hate Gay people, even here in CT. But they try to hid it.
I’ll add, if all the Democratic Senators would vote for this Justice he would be approved. Problem is one Democratic Senator has recused herself and the GOP now has 18 to 17. This particular Senator has been a thorn in the side of the Democrats for some time, she voted for the horrible GOP budget after leading on the Democratic leadership in the Senate. She is not running for another term. Good Riddance!
