Soon. I don't want to quibble about if this conversation needs to happen today, tomorrow or next week. I Just know we need to everything we can to reduce the chance of this happening again, we need to start the conversation - we need to move beyond one party putting their fingers in their ears and screaming "la la la la la"
And yes, while that is true of many issues in our political discourse, this is the time to draw a line, stand up and say NOW -now we talk respectfully and figure out how to fix this.

Call your congress critter, call your senator, call Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. We need to be loud and be heard on this. We cannot let them table this discussion again.
Is there a better way to request tickets? Call vs. e-mail?

Not much of a diary- but I know I'll get the best info here!
Anyone else having problems?
It won't move from one caller to the next, it is giving a server not secure security warning. Just weird stuff.

I woke up this morning like a kid on Christmas Day - as I opened my eyes I remembered what we were doing today. Today was the day I was going to cast my first vote for President - my vote for Barack Obama. Yep I'm a 40- something year old virgin.
I'm a naturalized citizen and although I was eligible to get my citizenship in 2007 I didn't realize it and so it wasn't until 2009 that I got my citizenship in the United States. But I'm sort of glad I didn't get vote for Obama last time. Seems strange right? At the time I was devastated - more below the orange croissant of truth.
A sobering read from Nate Silver this morning
Obama's chances are now 66% (down from 70% earlier this week and 85% pre-debate)
The case that Mr. Romney’s bounce is evaporating after his debate last week in Denver continues to look a bit thin...they do provide useful information about the day-to-day trend in the race, and so far they haven’t shown the sort of reversal that Democrats might have hoped for.
But although we do perceive some advantage for Mr. Obama in the Electoral College relative to the popular vote, I would caution our readers against thinking that it’s all that robust.
It is a sobering read. Nate Silver is not prone to hand-wringing and has been a steady voice of temperance of the past week - this hits like a punch to the gut.
Inspired by this comment by lovepolitics2008 - and the fact that social media seems to have at least equal footing if not more than the 4th estate for these elections I thought we should clear out some good hashtags for the debate tonight.
There are some obvious ones:
What else you got for me??
Oof! I know the national polling isn't as significant as the electoral college and swing state polls, but after trying to remain determined and positive for the last week I'm getting worn down. And I lost the expectations game with myself -I didn't expect the poll numbers to shift this much.
Couple that with the apparent end of the the Romney gaffe-a-day he had going in September and I'm thinking we've got too much riding on Mighty Joe!
I looked and didn't find this posted anywhere -but This American Life does a great job of breaking down where the money goes and how it works in Washington. Taking on congressional call centers, lobbyists, Citizens United and so much more.
I know for most people on this site -this is old hat -but it lays it out and I think is required listening for everyone that wants to understand the system. I've shared it with my less politically inclined friends and told them they must listen.
Add me to the throng of members of this site that are appalled and embarrassed by Operation Hilarity. I am pretty much unable to articulate myself right now because I'm so disgusted and mad.
The majority of members on this site do not want operation Hilarity to take place. I'm going to let the pictures do the talking now.
I have struggled for the past day to put into words how news of your decision to de-fund planned parenthood has made me feel. I don't even think there is a word in the english language that encapsulates the sadness, anger and frustration that I felt at the news. I've thought about for hours -having discussions with friends and strangers on the internet. But now I can sum it up in one word -DISGUST
This is the GOP ticket no-one is talking about. All the discussion about GOP contenders like Trump, Bachman, Romney, Palin are all laughable distractions. Here is a CBS story on the Top GOP Contenders -
There is so much heady stuff going right now in Washington with a looming shut-down in Wisconsin with a sudden;y over Supreme Court Race and then I came across this -and I just had to smile -I totally agree with the premise -a little levity in the political process (at the right time) can be fun!
