I am addressing capital C Christians, not small c christians. You know who you are... and so do we. You were making your fast food pilgrimage yesterday. Small c christians were too busy, helping the homeless, distributing food at food banks, volunteering to cheer up terminally ill patients, you know, being christians.
If you wondered if we got the message, rest assured, we did. Loud and clear. You hate us. OK. If you think you got any other message across, rest assured, your actions spoke louder than any "loving' words you could utter. You can protest that you love the sinner but hate the sin till the cows come home. We know hate. We've been on the receiving end all our lives. You can't fool us. You are only fooling yourselves.
But while you made your big stand with a greasy chicken sandwich in your hand, some gay kid was bawling his eyeballs out. Another one was wondering if he should just end it all and maybe you'd finally be satisfied. And even old tough birds like me were shaking our heads and wondering if it will ever end.
Well... yes and no. There will always be homophobes. Just like there will always be racists. But we have waited and persevered. We have lost our loved ones and our homes and possessions. We have lost our jobs and kids. You? You have nothing to lose. So your 1 hour stand in a fast food line is laughable. You got to go home and feel really good about yourselves and watch the Olympics. USA! USA!
But us? What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. We can see the finish line and yes we are tired, we are so, so tired, but we will not quit. You want to know why? Because of love.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Yes. This is why equality will happen. Love demands it.
