So, the Tea Partiers in Utah have thrown aside their long term incumbent Bob Bennett in favor of two relatively unknown rightwingers. But who are these guys, what would they do with Utah if given the chance, and what does it say about what the Tea Party would do with America if given the chance?
So let's take a look at Mike Lee and Tim Bridgewater. Who are these guys? What do they believe in?
They claim that ridding the country of foreigners "by any means necessary" is their mission. They've planted bombs. These bombs have gone off. Some have been arrested, after extensive manhunts by our FBI. Others are still fugitives. Some have lived in caves. They're part of coordinated organizations and networks. They're part of international networks. And yet nobody in this country knows their names. They don't spend the week on the front pages of our newspapers like Faisal Shahzad.
I don't have an opinion one way or the other about whether a mother should be breaking the law and frequenting New York clubs when they're underage.
I tend to think that if she were arrested it wouldn't be very good for her kid, but the policies barring 19 year olds from going to clubs in America are also pretty ridiculous.
I do think that if the Obama kids were caught doing what Palin's kids have been caught doing, there would be an entirely different standard for them though. Unfortunately people just seem to assume that the children of conservatives will do illegal things, and nobody seems to pay much attention. Oh well.
There has never been a clearer signpost to the reality of American politics in my lifetime than this period in which we're living. This reality is that no matter how much racism and fake patriotism the conservatives who represent the conservative movement try to dress up in, the only thing that will ever matter to them is preserving the power of Wall Street to exploit average people.
To steal from them.
We all watched as Bush's corporate conservative economy crashed and burned, how the banks held our jobs for ransom and stole our retirements. Deregulation created a new Great Depression. Only time tested liberal government prevented it from happening.
But tonight's vote by the senate to go on permitting monopolies in the banking system has never made the political decision in America more clear. The political Left in this country are the only ones that stand for average people. It's the Left that is synonymous with the welfare of average people. It's not conservatism. It never has been.
A U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, Shahzad Faisal, was trying to leave the country Monday night at John F Kennedy International Airport when he was picked up by Customs and Border Protection agents, Williams reported.
I just read this in the NY Daily News. It's an aspect to this story I've not read before. In the article, the standard update is given. Middle Eastern or Hispanic man buys Pathfinder from owner without papers off of Craigslist for somewhere around $1500. But then there's this new info, below the fold:
Despite the Pakistani Taliban's claim to the bombing attempt, investigators are looking into the video captured by a tourist from a Pennsylvania town showing a possible suspect in his 40's. The man is white.
Kelly said officers were on the way to a Pennsylvania town to talk to a tourist who might have recorded the suspect on his video camera. The video shows a white man in his 40s taking off one shirt, revealing another underneath.
Well, it's now gotten to the point where rightwing violence is so rampant in this country that it's become common. A lot of it never really ever even becomes front page news anymore, and most of it's down the memory hole before it's even processed.
As all of the rightwing violence from conservatives since Obama came to the national forefront is inevitably swept under the rug by the MSM in the run up to the November elections, we cannot forget the depth and depravity of the horror show that the conservative movement has given birth to. The MSM will of course fair and balance out the playing field for the GOP over the summer, as they always do, in order to manufacture controversy and indecision where none should exist, which in turn is done in order to paralyze government so that the conglomerates who own the news media can continue exploiting average Americans.
Since this is the inevitable reality of our for profit corporate news media, I've decided to start this running tab of rightwing terror, so that America never forgets the things conservatives have done since Obama took center stage.
Why didn't Republicans do this when they were in power?
Why didn't Bush shame Wellpoint to stop dropping patients?
Why didn't Sarah Palin campaign on it? Why didn't John McCain demand it?
Because Republicans are in bed with the health insurance companies and they work to maximize corporate profits, not the welfare of American citizens. It took Democrats and the Obama administration to get Wellpoint to stop dropping their sick patients, and Americans should never forget it.
Ok. Extermination talk? I haven't heard any of the extermination talk.
OK, Jed Lewison has already provided an example of Beck's eliminationist rhetoric, but I'm going to delve a little deeper into this one below. As you'll see, Beck threatens the lives of liberals on a near daily basis, but even goes so far as to threaten anyone who disagrees with him with nuclear holocaust.
I happen to be one of those Obama supporters who pretty much stands with him through thick and thin. But I do have to say that I think Obama made one of his larger mistakes in trusting Robert Gates, given his close ties to George HW Bush and the favors he likely owes him (not to mention Cheney).
It seems one of those favors may have been called up:
White House ‘not ready’ for nuclear Iran
U.S Defence Secretary Robert Gates has warned in a secret memo to senior White House officials that the United States does not have a long-term strategy for dealing with Iran’s nuclear programme.
