Why must variants of this be headlined so frequently? Can the major media outlets run this headline once a year, to clue in those who've just started to pay attention but haven't yet realized that this situation isn't news? Below, a few examples and a request for more.

I was disappointed with the responses to my diaries on Iraq's first mass execution since the invasion, so I won't be surprised to see this one slide down and off the list.

They just killed 13 people.

That doesn't sound like a newsworthy event in Iraq, I suppose. But here, of all places, people should recognize the moral implications of this act.

Now that Rumsfeld's gone, we have to figure out which other pre-election plans were lies. I think the biggest lie is that the goalposts of a democratic government in Iraq in charge of its own security would stay put.

Bush isn't going to drive his party into the ground with two more years of the same failed strategy. Rhetoric alone won't distance them far enough from him. They'll make him change tactics by threat of impeachment if necessary. Perhaps today's nomination indicates that this has already happened.

If the CIA's involvement in El Salvador during Gates' career tells us anything, it's that Bush is after "victory," no matter how bloody. Read More

I've been wondering why there have been no diaries on these two events :

In the first, the Iraqi government announced that it hung 27 people. Don't worry, they say, these people were rapists and murderers.

In the second, the Iraqi government shut down Al Arabiya television station. Al Arabiya was "unprofessional," you see.

Usually, when the question is "where is the outrage?" I can usually turn to DailyKos and find it on the right side of the screen, if not the center. What happened? Did nobody else read these stories? Didn't they send chills down anyone other spines? Read More

A man stopped me in the supermarket, confused by a sign below the napkins. It advertised two containers of napkins for $5 or $4. He wanted to know which was the real price. Upon reading the print that was perhaps too small for his eyes, I discovered "after mail-in rebate" printed below the $4. Even if he invites a deluge of junk mail by filling out their form (assuming there is one), will he see that dollar? Unlikely. I've never received a mail-in rebate without first complaining to the Better Business Bureau. How can we discourage this common scam? The answer can be found in any calculus textbook. Read More
