Dear President Obama,
I worked with Eric Clapton, and many artists at Warner Bros Records. One thing I noticed around Eric is nobody would be blunt with him. And he needed it often. It was unfortunate to see people in fear, protecting themselves, rather than protecting and loving Eric.
With all due respect, and as a supporter and continual contributor, I feel I must tell you it's time to snap out of whatever held you back during the first debate, and take it to Romney. Not in a professorial way, but in a simple, forthright way, that the American people will appreciate and understand, and will fire up your supporters.
It CAN'T be easy to have a guy lying to you on national tv, with the constraints of being "presidential." An elbow on the court is probably what you wanted to give him.
Here's my 2 cents. When Romney lies, say, "Governor Romney, this has not been your position. You have been for 'X.'" Romney of course will say, "no, my position has not changed, stop saying that." Your response? "I believe your positions HAVE changed, but if you haven't, let me ask you, do you still believe in your other stated positions? You believe corporations are people? You believe 47% of the country are victims? Do you still not care about the very poor? Do you still think middle income is $250,000 a year? Do you still take a "lot of credit" that the car industry has come back? Do you still think it was not worth moving heaven and earth to catch one man; named Osama Bin Laden? And finally, do you still think undocumented immigrants should "self deport." Because these are ALSO things you have been for, and I'd like to know if these things you're ALSO going to deny now?
Mr President, these are things people can understand and will relate to. These will be the things people talk about 30 years from now, like they still do about "there you go again." Frankly, the numbers you mention are more substantial, but that is not what this is about. Numbers can be in TV commercials.
Keep it simple, call him out, all while being VERY presidential. After all, I consider, as many do, the policies the republicans are talking about are at best dangerous to our country's future, and at worst, terrorist-like. These policies do terrorize many normal Americans.
Mr President, this is YOUR time. Everything you have done in your life has lead to this moment. We need you. Heck, watch William Wallace in front of his men if you have to in Brave Heart. Seriously. When some men almost left the battle? Watch THAT!
Sincerely,
Bill Janis
