All right, somebody gotta say something. I did the obligatory search to see if there was a diary and all the majick box was able to produce was two hits and one of them was the Overnight Newsdesk Science edition. Right. Never saw a single mention of this hiring, which in my mind is at least marginally historic in terms of race relations. More beyond the squiggle.

Yep, right there in San Antonio. 8-3. Kinda makes for a nice bookend for Wendy Davis, et al winning their case against Goodhair and his cronies. (as an aside, it felt a little odd to see Boyd Richie on the other side on that deal)
Anyhow...the haters lose again.

Why I still engage on Facebook

by cactusflinthead

I find it a bit peculiar that some Daily Kos Members are so dead set against Facebook as a medium to reach people. I understand the fatigue that sets in when you disprove the same lie you did last week confronting yet another thoroughly mixed and firmly set concrete-headed Faux News viewer, but bear with me past the squiggle and I will tell you why I still do it.

Old man refuses to text

by cactusflinthead

The final text I will be receiving for the near and perhaps distant future was a compliment form my niece about my tie-dye shirt. While we were in the same grocery store. Instead of just walking over to me and saying, "HI! nice shirt!" She just HAD to text me. That stopped today. No longer will the females of my acquaintance be texting me with messages that could have been told to me in person or by talking to me.

A little background after the squiggle...

Farewell Earl Scruggs, 88

by cactusflinthead

If you don't know of the man you probably ought to. You probably have heard some of his work whether you knew it or not. Too twangy for Nashville today but back a while ago he was front and center with his friend Lester hawking Martha White and Pet Milk at the Grand Old Opry. Unlike the present day when the Dixie Chicks are vilified for justifiable embarrassment for having to share Texas with W Earl was playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown at an anti-war protest in 1969.

From itzik shpitzik in comments. Obit from the Tennessean.

Intersections:Common Ground

by cactusflinthead

It seems like sometimes I walk in different circles of humans. The ones I know here are not the ones I know there. It may well be that you are the only link between two entirely disparate groups.

In June I became gainfully employed again. Quite likely the worst job I have ever had. They do not offer insurance and if there is some minimum number of employees that the owner can have to avoid having to offer insurance to his employees he will have one less than that. However, since the great and noble State of Texas has determined that I make too much money to have my daughter receive medicaid/CHIP, the maximum amount being 1226 smoking dollars per month, I have to find somewhere else to go.

I said a week or so ago that my lowly stRangers don't belong to W anymore. Seems like that seismic shift has occured, but well since then...

we beat the damnyankees and got to the world series
and it aint been so good since for my baseball team
maybe that means i can trade what SF has to offer America
over what Texas does
and i live here in this Lone Star State
be glad to see us lose if that is what it means
