Let’s be Frank[en]. It is difficult to analyze the MN Senate recount as we are only partially through the process. The numbers, however, are looking good for Al. According to the Star Tribune tracking page (as of 2 PM CST):
Coleman lead: 156 (net loss of 59 since the beginning of the recount) with 21% of the vote recounted.
Unfortunately, this is only part of the picture. Votes challenged by either camp are not included in these totals. Current challenges stand at:
Franken Challenges: 143
Coleman Challenges: 210
We have seen evidence that while there are some valid challenges from both camps, the vast majority of these challenges are not valid and will not be upheld by the State Canvassing Board. These are mostly quickly trained volunteers who feel the weight of their candidates on their shoulders and are being overly aggressive.
What does this mean? The majority of the Coleman challenges will eventually end up back in the Franken total and vice versa (some will also end up in the other pile as well). Therefore, the greater number of Coleman challenges is actually a good thing for Franken.
