A petition to Obama to return his Nobel peace prize in view of his continuation of the murderous and failed regime change policies of the previous Administration. This is the longer form since the White House only allows a few words. Please repost this. Maybe our wrongheaded policies can be changed. A link to the petition is below.
Mr. President:
I voted for you, but watched with increasing horror as we senselessly continued the "regime change" policies of the previous Administration. These policies have resulted in the death or dislocation of millions, at a cost of trillions. It is time to return your Nobel peace prize. Frankly, I never thought a politician should get a peace prize, since it is simply their job to keep the peace; and since they have the power to totally offset the reason the prize was given, at a later date.
Under your administration, our new adventures in Libya, Syria, and the Ukraine have resulted in zero gains for the American people and terrible losses for everyone else. Amazingly, we have now even admitted our real goal in Syria is the removal of their President, with the removal of ISIS only secondary. But you cannot serve two masters, and these goals are not compatible. If you remove Assad as you did Gaddafi, you get the same result: Libya was a modern, prosperous, well-educated, middle-class state, with great social services and freedom for women. It is now an Islamist hellhole, roamed by splinter gangs of madmen and terrorists. Gaddafi was not a good man, but not a threat to us. And frankly, if we are so worried about human rights, we ignore national leaders in other countries who are much, much worse. Besides, it is a human right not to be bombed out of your home - a situation we have been aggravating.
With the entry of the Russians into Syria after our own dismal failure to uproot ISIS, we should have cheered, and cooperated. Instead, Washington has issued a drumbeat of media-cloned propaganda: Russia is bombing "our" CIA-trained fighters; not the right ones. The thing is, the only real difference between "our" Al Nusra, and ISIS or Al Quada, is the spelling; and in how they choose to slaughter anyone who doesn't agree with them. Maybe Russia will fail. Maybe they will succeed. But they should not fail due to our own purposeful interference, thus allowing ISIS to control the Middle East. ISIS has not lost under America's air and ground campaign, they have gained.
We may not like Assad. He may not be a nice guy. But he was duly elected by a majority of his people in an election judged fair by the international community. It was not a coup. As I recall, there was a lot of doubt about the election which put the previous Administration in office, so we should have nothing to say about Syria's.
Mr. President, you publicly apologized for the bombing of the Afghan hospital. It is rare for a US President to apologize for anything. I suggest you continue this honorable course with a symbolic act showing the world, and history, that we are done with wrecking the Middle East.
Return your peace prize.
