I need to clarify some confusion about an yesterday's post suggesting a "state option."
I am not the smartest nor most politically savvy person in the room, but it seems to me there is a great compromise that will meet the President's goals, be satisfactory for the Netroots and destroy the right-wing propaganda masters' talking points - the state-run insurance option.
While researching something esle, I came across this gem which indicates A. how long health insurance has been broken in this country and B. Where conservatives have a history of support for ideas like the public option currently on the table.
There have been enough sacrifices in the healthcare bill. I say if sacrifices have to be made for sake of compromise, make them elsewhere, like education.
I've looked at the numbers and have devised a grand health coverage plan that is prudent and meets most major goals from all sides. I started from the 1.7 trillion dollars of health costs that the US incurred in 2007 according to government figures and assumed the same level of costs (they should go down dramatically, but I didn't want to assume that).
