I just met with someone who’ll contribute at least $5,000 to create one or more of the following websites that a small group of three people has come up with to defeat Trump and elect Hillary. If you have thoughts, ideas or input related to the websites and their implementation etc, please share them here. We’d love to hear what you think.
As we’re very busy with full-time jobs and existing volunteer roles, we’re looking for people to volunteer and/or work for a stipend to build them, add content and market them. Three of the sites are pretty easy to do: text with some embedded videos. Two are semi-advanced with some crowdsourcing features.
We’re not interested in making a dime, so any money that comes would go into the sites and people running them. If the sites are able to generate donations (or maybe ad revenue), then the people who run them could be paid more than a stipend. We might be able to get early funding from a couple of other people, and after more people see the sites, probably other people would support them.
We own all of the domain names in com and org already. We’re open to considering donating one or more of the domains/ideas to someone or to a group of people if they can show they have the resources (such as money and/or skills) to make a good site and market it. Likewise, maybe someone could start off running a site on a stipend, and if it does well and the person is trustable, we turn ownership of it over to the person. Contact info is below. Here are the sites:
1) StiffedByTrump.com - a site with info on people who’ve been stiffed by Trump with their stories of what took place. People who have been stiffed by Trump can make written or video entries describing how they got screwed. We’ll also have info from existing news stories about real people who were stiffed. Stiffing people is viewed as far worse than simply failing in business. This would really put meat on the bones of allegations that Trump stiffed people, and put faces on the allegations.
We think the site would get viral action on social media, and be covered by the news media. Equally important, it would act as a place where reporters can find people who’ve been stiffed by Trump to get information and quotes for their own stories about him. Reporters are over-worked and usually don’t have the time to try to locate someone half-way across the country who’s been stiffed by a presidential candidate. The site would have a database of people who’ve agreed to be contacted by the media. We’d let them choose whether they want their contact info on the site, or on a list that we only give to members of the media.
2) TrumpSham.com - While we and the person contributing to create the sites vote Democrat, we think it’s important in the introduction at the top of this website to quote Republicans and Independents saying Trump is a sham. People in the middle whose votes will likely decide the elections will be affected by that more than by Dems saying it. Here’s the draft intro:
Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush just before the Republican convention said Donald Trump’s collection of promises and claims is “like an alternative universe that he created … that's not going to happen” and “the heartbreaking part of this is I think people are really going to feel betrayed.” Fox News analyst Juan Williams said Trump’s appeal is a “false illusion” created by Trump. Self-made billionaire and former Republican New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg said of Trump “I’m a New Yorker, and I know a con when I see one.”
We agree Trump is phony, and we think Americans are too smart to fall for it - if they hear the facts. So here’s a look at what Trump says and what is real. You owe it to yourself to read it before you vote for president:
Trump claim:
Reality:
… then the whole site will be a series of key Trump claims followed by the truth with videos and links to prove it.
It will include his claims that he’s had a successful business career, that he’s worth $10 billion, that he understands everyday people, that he united the Republicans, and the other things that are core to his sales pitch. We’ve already written up about half of them (including supporting research), but we need people to help write the other half and market the website.
3) TrumpLiesList.com - this will be similar to the above but will be a list of MOST of or ALMOST ALL of the lies Trump has told in the months since he announced running for president. The massive number of lies being in one place will have a big impact. All people lie from time to time, including people we love. People know this. So people mostly ignore it when someone says a politician has lied about some things. But if there is a site with 500 lies on it, that would be clear proof that Trump is a pathological liar. And 500 lies on one page is a powerful visceral experience. When people scroll through 50 and realize there are 450 more, they’ll realize it’s an extreme amount of lies. An extremely huge list is also more likely to get media coverage than, say, a list of 100.
The site could also be updated daily to add new lies, and a counter at the top named the “Trump Lie Count” would increase in size each day. TrumpLieCount could be a Twitter hashtag people use each time he lies. This would also probably get media coverage. Especially if after a single presidential debate, his count goes from say 500 to 550.
The list will be searchable by keywords so reporters can quickly find lies about topics they’re writing about. If they’re writing about topic A and they find he lied about it 48 times, that would likely make it into the story and they’d probably mention the website to generate more visitors.
This research could be largely crowdsourced: people could submit lies and counterproof links or videos, and others could check them before adding them to the site. The list would be in chrono order so contributors could see what dates are already in there. A lot of Trump’s speeches and press conferences of the last year are online, so people could watch and add lies to the list.
Plus, for repetitive lies, after the research is done on one, it can be re-used on others. So really the main work is just combing his speeches for more lies and re-using the site’s existing proof. In fact, on the contributor submittal page, it could have 10 of his most common lies with “proof” links with checkboxes next to them that the contributor can simply check off. Also, there’s already a decent amount of existing info on lies, but it needs to be added into 1 huuuge list. Front page could also have a section of “Top 10 Trump lies” with his craziest or most negative ones.
We already also own TrumpLieCount. We’d consider turning the TrumpLieList and TrumpLieCount domains over to leaders/members of DailyKos if we know there’s a commitment from them to do a strong site. We think that likely it would be best for this website to not be directly operated by DK so the media won’t write it off as run by a site whose goal is to electing Democrats. But if it’s run/owned by a group of assorted people, the media will be too busy to try to figure out if they’re affiliated with Kos, and their story will probably simply say it’s a new site focused on recording the epic, historical number of lies by a presidential candidate. The focus will be on that, versus the focus of the story being what Dem groups are trying to do to elect Hillary.
4) PutCountryBeforeParty.com - a website encouraging Republicans to put the country ahead of their party. Site will also have a list of Republicans who have decided to vote for Hillary, their bios and their reasons. And links to videos of them and articles they’ve written. Site will appeal not only to Republicans, but to independents.
5) BernForHillary.com - a website showcasing Bernie’s strong support of Hillary with videos of his speeches saying that, and a list of the many things/beliefs/goals they share in common, and details on how Trump would impact all of us including them. It will be updated daily with: a) videos of new speeches; b) his tweets feed; c) info on where he’ll be speaking next. etc. We also own “FeelTheBernForHillary.” The degree to which Bernie supporters vote for Hillary could decide the election. Also, Dems could post links to the site at any social media sites or news sites that claim that Bernie isn’t enthusiastically behind Hillary. After this site is built, we could possibly turn it over to Bernie and/or to his campaign managers who support Hillary. Some media would cover the fact that Bernie has a new site specifically to support Hillary.
If you’re interested, please email trumpisphony@gmail.com and let me know your skills (researching, website development, writing, management or marketing), how many hours you think you could do a week, and whether you think you can volunteer or need a stipend. It can be your initial thinking at this point. Or send me your email via a message here and I’ll get in touch with you.
We’re open to using open source CMSs or even website builders like Squarespace for a couple of the simple ones depending on the skills of people who help. If you know of other websites where I should post this, let me know. And like I said, we’d love to hear your ideas and input about the websites.
