Freiday Critters Guest Edition

by duhban

First the rules from our wonderful and aweseome pootie queen

Those of you who already either know me or know of me know that I am a massive pootie person. I grew up with both cats & dogs and I love both. I do not discriminate against any animal & love animal photos of all kinds. Please enjoy the following and add any photos that you think the community would like to see. Now, enjoy the photos & have some fun.

Of course, the usual rules apply:
1. Be nice to each other
2. No trolling the diary
3. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now.
4. Share any and all pootie/woozle photos or issues that you would like to. When it comes to problems, we may just have someone with experience who can help.
5. Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. Bringing that stuff in here will be dealt with the same way we deal with trolls. I WILL ALWAYS BACK MY PEEPS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE!
6. Also, there is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, all are offered with love and may be borrowed with just as much love.

So I got woken up as one of my kitties had something to tell me
The only reaction I could think of

Good evening all

Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meetup for prayer* and community at Daily Kos.  We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing is welcome.

There's been a lot of talk about the 'attack on net neutrality' and I wanted to talk about why I don't inherently think what is happening is an attack on the nets and in fact could be a good thing. Because this topic is both complicated and passionate I want to make something clear first. I'll debate this issue with almost anyone but I will not be responding to insults.

I'd like to apologize to the community, due to some mistakes on my part last week's diary did not happen. This week I really have no words to share and because of a variety of reasons I find myself in need of some centering and mediation. As such all I have below the jump is some music I tend to turn to for that. I hope the beginning of this week finds people well.

WYFP: Just how far should one go?

by duhban

WYFP? is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?

John Locke and Lockean Thought

by duhban

I must confess that if it wasn't for the lack of empiricism (or maybe better to say less empiricism) and the lack of job security I can see myself being a philosophy or history major. Both topics fascinate me and to me one of the best things in the world is a good beer and a good open ended conversation about either topic without the need to 'win' (ie dominate the discussion and stroke your ego). Since the last time I wrote on Rand whom I hold in contempt I thought this time I'd write on Locke whom I would contend is the single most influential philosophy of his period. Do not believe me? Well join me below and let's see if I can convince you.

So it's been a couple days (well okay probably more then that but me and time aren't really on speaking terms generally) since the challenge to write about why we are here, why we are democrats and progressives. Honestly I had never really intended to answer it for a variety of reasons, however last night I read an excellent diary by tmservo433 and it changed my mind.

So if you want to read a convoluted tale come join me below.

Hi so this diary actually grew out of a series of exchanges I had with people here about the saying 'the ends justify the means'. To be frank I was rather frustrated with what was being said and with the limitations of a comment so I decided to write this diary.

What follows is a discussion on Machiavellian thought and how it pertains to Consequential and ultimately why I believe it is flawed and even possibly a clever and subtle satire (for those interested I'm mostly Kantian in my ethical outlook).

So please follow me below as we dip our toes into the field of ethics.

Hi so I was asked to write a diary about something specific and I am going to use that as an oppurtunity to not only do that but say my piece. After that I think I am done with current events here for now. I will respond in diary but that's it.

What follows is just me no one else and my own last attempt to try and bring some actual knowledge to the discussion and less hyperbole and fear.
