I love the Road Runner/Coyote cartoons. I loved them when I was a lot younger and I still love them now. The coyote will plot and plan to try to figure out some way of capturing and eating the Road Runner. Somehow, we all know that the coyote sometime during the ordeal will fall off a very high cliff.
I wish I could tell you that the GOP is different or better than the coyote. They aren’t. Let’s start with their basic premise, ObamaCare is evil and bad. Any thoughtful American would dismiss that as partisan nonsense but let’s play this out.
Healthcare is over a $3.2 trillion industry. Millions of Americans deliver healthcare to millions of other Americans. We understand that healthcare in the US is expensive. I’m not sure that anyone has a good idea of how to make healthcare less expensive. But the GOP has an idea that they know how to get this done. Kick low income people off of government subsides then everything will be better. Give the “savings” to the rich and presto, everything is better.
What they fail to acknowledge is sick people are going to go to the doctor sooner or later. We want sick people to get to the doctor sooner because sooner gives patients the best chance to heal. Sooner is cheaper and less costly for everyone. Going to the ER for care is usually more time consuming and tons more expensive. If millions of people lose coverage, expect that these same people will show up to the ER sooner or later. Oh, damn, I’m making a thoughtful argument and the GOP just don’t care.
The GOP has come up with multiple ways of taking away healthcare for low income and middle income Americans. One way is to block grant healthcare to the states. The best way to think of this is the Feds in order to save money give less of it to the states. More beaurcrats. Less services delivered to Americans. That’s block grants.
The House just passed this bag of garbage. The complete disregard for hard working americans is overwhelming. This healthcare fight just isn't as funny as the coyote and road-runner. There are some real Americans who are about to be thrown off that cliff.
