Much like my champion of choice in this current primary, I wish we could just move beyond the “Damn Emails”, but it’s not them feel are the true Other Shoe when it comes to the 42nd First Couple. Nor do I think a tragic attack in Libya will yield and Skeletons beyond what the other side has already tried to assemble. There may not be a true Sword hovering in the past waiting to strike down the former First Lady. But in the last 20 years we have learned that the RW Media could try using even a Doughnut to attack her, and scuttle her attempt at history.
Fox News, has been with us almost 20 years, and since the start they haven’t been shy about attacking anyone they see as the Left. That goal in mind they spent most of that 20 years making the Secretary out to be the “Demon Queen” who strikes fear and invokes hatred in the minds of its’ viewership. To the point where even many of us around hear have a reflex not to trust her at first glace, agreement or disagreement with the former Senator from New York’s take of “the left” non-withstanding.
Lord knows that the RW Media from Fox to Hate Radio to the darker parts of the internet await a chance to open fire on her once more. While my reasons for voting for the Senator from Vermont are strongly rooted in policy and my long standing opposition for Invasion of Iraq. I feel that using such a well known Entity as our candidate this fall over the lesser known one just invites them to do so and to bring up the endless “gates” we would all like to forget from the 90’s.
But I do not think it will be about emails or anything at the front of our minds it could be something as simple as a Doughnut that triggers it.
Flash forward to October 2016 the her numbers are doing okay but the attacks from the asshole on the other side strike here and there, while making a stop at some bakery in the heartland the nominee samples a doughnut offered only at that shop. They make a face, the flavor is not bad but ‘unique’ would be the best word, the expression is of course photographed and filmed and suddenly it is everywhere. The first attacks of course come from the 20 years Hate media, but not long after that “Doughnut-gate” gets talked about across the media as other outlets cover the over all absurd attacks by the rightwingers. But as nuts as it all sounds this becomes the straw that breaks the camel’s back, and all the years of attacks come to fruition. Our party fails and our nightmares come to pass.
While I tried to make this absurd as I could, I do fear the long history of attacks that the Secretary has faced hurting our chances at victory in the fall. Over 20, or maybe even longer if you go back to their days as First Family of Arkansas, you have a media machine that has trained their views to hate these two centrists to view them as the extreme left. While the much valued swing voters and even our rank and file legacy Democrats like myself who have family voting history with the party going back to the New Deal Era, to not trust them as we might another long time partner of our general movement.
The selection of our current President in 2008 threw the other side for a loop they had to shelve all their stock piled ammunition, and look for new methods of attack. All the while the Maverick who they ran that year talked down the nastiest attacks that his party has since embraced in whole, one of the few honorable things I will give him credit for. They had to learn how to hate the former Senator from Illinois, they already hate mistress of super delegates. Sure they would come to hate the one time Mayor as well, but like our last nominee they would have to develop new methods of attack.
The “socialism” attack, sure they would use it, but they have cried wolf far to many times for it to matter anymore. Hell they will call a Democratic Party champion socialist even if they are a wall street favoring centrist.
This Tuesday I will join other Michiganders in voting and I will vote for the one who still carries that Depression Ending banner that my Great grandfather once voted for and that my grandfather would vote for as well. We need to select the most electable the one who is hardest to fight, and I would rather out national foes face someone who they really do not know that well.
