Stephen Colbert opened his Friday night show with his usual audience encounter of running down the front row of the audience and slapping each hand held out to him. Except this time he was wearing a blue vinyl glove.
This was funny and fine for Colbert, but it was not so good for the audience members who he risked spreading a virus from person to person. Next time the show should pass out vinyl gloves to all the front row viewers and send a cautious message about contact between people.
Every day precautions: I recently had to sign a credit card receipt. I looked at the pen provided by the cashier that was secured by a long string of rubber bands and thought of the dozens of customers that handled that pen before me. I decided that I am not going to pick up that pen and use it. I found a pen in my pocket and signed the receipt.
