Jon Stewart. Daily Show. DNC coverage.
From The Blaze
"The issue Stewart maligned? Tolerance. His cameras and correspondent found that attendees were quick to claim tolerance and inclusion but they were slow to extend it while discussing conservatives.
'Everyone’s welcome,' one convention-goer says. Stewart’s correspondent quickly asks, 'Except?'
'Except unless you own a corporation, or if you’re a hunter, a gun owner, white males,' he responds."
I can't verify it through watching a video (military college, TV is not allowed for me and internet filter blocks online streaming). However, multiple sources are reporting that somebody said something like that. I know absolutely nothing about The Blaze, it's just the source that gave quotes.
The majority of the population opposes new restrictions on firearm ownership and that number is increasing, as is the number of people who own firearms.
The Democratic Party platform supports banning "assault weapons." I won't discuss why that term is BS again. I will just point out that those are the most popular firearms in the United States by a huge margin. I will give you a quote from Josh Sugarmann, the head of the Violence Policy Center: "Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons." This quote proves that banning them has no purpose other than to inconvenience people who follow the law, causing more and more restrictions to become tolerable to the general public (anybody who accuses me of using a slippery slope logical fallacy needs only to look at the United Kingdom to see that it is not a logical fallacy in this case, as it has been documented that that's exactly what happens).
The Democratic Party platform also requests an “an honest, open national conversation about firearms.” We had that. The gun control extremists lost. Those with the liberal opinion on the issue won the debate. That's why the vast majority of states don't have very strict firearm laws. Look at every poll not paid for by the major players in the issue (no Joyce Foundation polls, no Bloomberg polls, etc.) to see what the general public's opinion is on the issue, especially when misleading and fear-mongering terms such as "assault weapon" are not used in the poll.
Also, Al Sharpton, who is inextricably tied with the Democratic Party, has said recently that he wants all firearms other than bolt-action rifles, revolvers, and shotguns to be banned. Al Sharpton could be considered the Democratic Party's equivalent of Rush Limbaugh (although much thinner, more tactful, and more polite) in that he is seen by the other side as the voice of the party due to his massive influence over the officeholders and he is an idiot. Anybody in such a position with relation to his party who wants to start confiscating the vast majority of firearms (probably at least two thirds of firearms other than shotguns) will draw votes against that party solely because of that issue.
If you want people to stop voting against the Democratic Party only because of this one issue, stop giving such extremists more of a voice on the issue than they've earned and stop ostracizing the liberals in the party just because they don't agree with the party line on this one issue.
