In a follow-up study, the third in a series of analyses performed since 2002, the Oxford Research Group has produced an extensive study on the expected result of an Israeli military attack on Iran's nuclear weapon's facilities.  This study is titled, "Military Action Against Iran: Impact and Effects".

This is a very good read, some relevant information from the 14-page study is listed below, there is much much more in the report and I highly suggest anyone interested in middle east issues read it.

Also, Raw Story has a good article on the report here:
Study, Attack on Iran would be the 'Start of Long War'

Yesterday, I received a massive number of troll ratings for a factual post regarding U.S. motives for invading Iraq.  Besides working to defend the neo-conservatives and conservative views on a Democratic site, the HR's were completely abusive and against the guidelines.

Any discussion of Israel's protection as a motivating factor (to whatever degree) for our invasion of Iraq is verboten on the Daily Kos.  I simply quoted General George Zinni (see below)and this factual post was hidden by a number of abusive HR's.  I then stated to receive HR's on an unrelated personal diary posted a day earlier.

Is this how the Daily Kos works?  Is this what is supposed to make up a reality based community?  What if the trolls rule with gangland HR's to suppress discussion?

What can you do about it?

Kabuki Democracy

I am about 2/3 of the way through Eric Alterman's Opus.

This is what we are up against: total hegemonic rule by the beltway establishment.

They have been working on this since 1967.

Is Israel Preparing to Attack Iran?

by innereye

All indications are that Israel is preparing for a Pre-emptive strike on Iran.  Italy's PM, Silvio Berlusconi said it will probably happen soon.  From an American liberal, anti-war activist's perspective, this is simply a continuation of the Neo-Conservative strategy for a "redrawing of the geopolitical map" of the middle east.

Documentation from 2001-2003 indicated that the long-term strategy was for changes in the regimes of Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Iran and eventually, Saudi Arabia.

Gen. Wesley Clark said that after Iraq, Syria and Lebanon would be addressed and then after 5 years (around 2008) Iran would be attacked.  Now that Syria and Iran have a mutual defense pact (with Lebanon, it can be assumed), and Turkey/Israeli relations have soured, it looks like the attack on Iran may happen sooner than later.

on another note, the health care co-op strategy has been decided.

Yeah, It didn't take long for the insurance companies to come up with a plan with Dennis Kucinich announcing the end-result 6 months before the Senate vote.

Recently Dennis Kucinich wrote a prescient piece about what was going to happen in the health care "reform" process.  He called it the "Private Mandate Sausage Machine"

The Zionist Neo-Conservatives

by innereye

First, the Zionist Neo-conservatives crafted a paper to describe their intention for securing the realm by invading Iraq.

Israel can shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq

Then they crafted an announcement on Afghanistan as a Pakistani-enabled threat:

The “Taliban Option,” coming as it did partly as a result of shifts in Pakistani politics, themselves intertwined within an ascending spiral of corruption and governmental inefficiency, meant falling into an endless series of concessions to extremist parties. After a certain point it probably becomes difficult even for the policymakers to know whether a particular decision is a conscious policy act or merely another mollification.   The consequences of Islamabad’s policy for Pakistan already are serious, and fraught with major risks just ahead.

A telling news article just came through on the AFP yesterday.  In this article it is shown that BP did every thing they could to prevent a workable solution to the greatest environmental catastrophe in U.S. history.

let that sink in.

BP wanted to allow even more destruction.  All the economic damage, the catastrophe that is facing hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. not to mention the abject devastation of the Gulf wildlife, all of this was to be allowed to continue even further by BP.

And if the Republicans had their way they would have let it happen.

BP Lies About. . .Methane

by innereye

AP NewsWire

Gulf oil full of methane, adding new concerns

The oil emanating from the seafloor contains about 40 percent methane, compared with about 5 percent found in typical oil deposits, said John Kessler, a Texas A&M University oceanographer who is studying the impact of methane from the spill.
That means huge quantities of methane have entered the Gulf, scientists say, potentially suffocating marine life and creating "dead zones" where oxygen is so depleted that nothing lives.

And BP's response?

BP spokesman Mark Proegler disputed Joye's suggestion that the Gulf's deep waters contain large amounts of methane, noting that water samples taken by BP and federal agencies have shown minimal underwater oil outside the spill's vicinity.

"The gas that escapes, what we don't flare, goes up to the surface and is gone," he said.

oh really????

Praise be to Molech, King of Fire and consort to Ashtoreth. The Midsummer's Eve is upon us and it is time to gather together at The Sacred Grove and make sacrifice of our cares of this world in the flames of power.

As we prepare ourselves for The Cleansing we must remember that we are all one brotherhood, united as we have always been, knights of Rhodes, scholar sailors, the founders of civilization.

Let us now gather together once again and claim our noble birthright as Masters of Life and Death.

UPDATE:  Maybe I don't want to believe it, maybe I am wrong but further review of the first part of the video indicates that it may be a trick of sediment being forced out from under the crack on the sea floor by the ROVs propulsion system.

I am indicating in this diary that the evidence is inconclusive.

This is an update to a previous diary posted June 10th.  Indications are that the wellbore has suffered damage 1000 feet below the sea floor.

This video shows that BP is surveying the sea floor looking for evidence of sea floor leakage -- this is a good thing that they are finally checking it.
