More and more we keep hearing attention given to people who are black but right-wing. Ben Carson has been the new Fox News love of the moment for a while, specifically because he is black but conservative. Fox and other right-wing outlets feel like if they show blacks that are conservative that somehow there is no racism, or that those the protest or complain are just “takers”. It really just continues the trend of the right-wing and their cheerleaders like Fox keeping people from focussing on the real issues and solutions in this country by dividing people and using race to do so. Carson is black so he is the one speaking for all blacks right? He’s not lazy, he is a surgeon. He’s smart, educated, well spoken. These other blacks that are protesting? Just lazy, culturally ignorant and don’t want to work hard. Carson worked hard and he made it, so why can’t all the others?
I mean he grew up in the inner city, single parent home, dire poverty, mother wasn’t well-educated. Couldn’t even read! And Ben thought he was stupid, and not capable of anything. Was a horrible student. But he kept dreaming and made it! All on his own, right? Not really. And this is where the message gets muddy, like many other right-wing biographies. You know “you didn’t make that” thing, the thing that the right-wing makes fun of liberals for saying. Because it tries to keep the “great individual” theory going when someone needs to be promoted as the smart one, the self-made man.
From his biography and other places it does look like Mr. Carson is a great surgeon with many awards, gosh he has written 6 books! But he sounds a little confused. In 1996 he criticized the health insurance companies, saying that “we” need to get rid of for-profit companies. But in 2013, he called the Affordable Care act “the worst thing that has happened since slavery.” Although he believes in equal justice for all, he says that marriage is between a man and woman. And that gays don’t get to change the definition. He used the word “gays” along with bestiality, and pedophiles. That’s just a few of his views that are frightening. And there is a good-sized segment of the country that loves this guy and want him to be President.
Racism and bigotry are misunderstood by many to only depend on the color of the person making the statements like these above and many more. It doesn’t. Racism comes in all colors and political persuasion. A right-wing place like Fox that mainly appeals to older white people and a political party that is basically southern based constantly appeals to the fear of blacks. More recently the scary people are brown-skinned and from Mexico. “Blacks are going to take your jobs!” “Mexicans are going to take away real American jobs citizens should have!” “Mexicans are going to take away jobs that blacks could get!” The answer is to get rid of unemployment and welfare. People (non-whites) are just lazy, there are lots of jobs out there. See the pattern? Keep people who aren’t white divided and frightened and you can distract them from the real problems.
The problem isn’t who is getting the jobs and who isn’t. The problem is that the middle class and poor are being kept in their place by laws passed by the many conservative legislatures and our Congress and agreed to by frightened, spineless Democrats and others. Keep the minimum wage down, tell everyone it will cost jobs. Keep unions divided because they are corrupt and steal people’s money. Government is bad and can’t do anything but steal money for social security and social programs.
But Ben Carson got preferential treatment because of his color, right? Did he get into Yale and the University of Michigan Medical School based on his talents and good looks? Paul Ryan lived off of Social Security after his dad died when he was young. That doesn’t sound self-made.
The bottom line is that these guys and those that follow them are nothing but hateful, heartless jerks that got theirs and now don’t feel the need to help anyone else. Pure and simple. In many ways has nothing to do with race, but just a plain lack of compassion and empathy. We all make our lives somewhat successful for a few reasons. Talent, skills, a little luck, people above us that we impress and help us, hard work, and yes government programs that helped those before us and continue to help our children and ourselves when we are young and as we age. Let’s never forget that.
So Fox News, Daily Caller, Breitbart, Mr. Conservative, Tea Party News, CNS, The Drudge Report and all the other hateful right-wing sites and talking heads can talk all they want, but that’s the game they are playing. Hopefully Carson doesn’t really get it and realize that those sites promoting them are just assisting them in keeping the “Southern Strategy” living on as long as they can play it. They got him up there not because he is smart. But he talks the talk and is BLACK. Now who is the slave? Keep people hating each other and blaming each other while the store get’s given away to the top 1% and corporations that pay no income tax, and won’t pay a living wage. Keep the other 99% convinced that if they just work a little harder they will be fine. Cause some day those fools will wake up. And then it won’t be pretty will it?
