Some small business owners met with Kelly Ayotte here in NH this past week to whine about ACA.

From her email:

Owners of some small New Hampshire businesses said at a forum Thursday that paperwork and expense are threatening the economic platforms on which their companies are built - to the point that the Affordable Care Act could trump nature.

Greg Goddard, general manager of Gunstock Ski Resort, said requirements that health insurance be offered to employees who are on a company payroll for 120 consecutive days or longer could mean opening the slopes later and shutting them down earlier.

"We may not be able to open beyond 120 days; it may be Christmas to the middle of March ... the summer season may be the fourth of July until Labor Day," Goddard said at a roundtable discussion with Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H. "If I didn't have this mandate to worry about, this would not be on the table."

Now we know this is absolute BS and these business owners just don't want to do the right thing by their employees.

So if you are a skier, or a resident of New England pass the word around about places like GunStock that care so little about their employees that they would rather close up then do the right thing.

You might also drop a word or two on their Facebook page as to what you think about this move. Gunstock

The list of mass shootings in the US  just since 2005 is 65 pages long. How many pages will take before we say enough?

Obama Pivots from Last Night

by jsfox

This will be short  so scream and yell all you want:) However, Obama at a campaign event today used last nights debate to his advantage.

"We had our first debate last night, and when I got onto the stage I met this very spirited fellow who claimed to be Mitt Romney," Obama told the crowd of roughly 12,300. "But it couldn't have been the real Mitt Romney."

The "real" Romney, he said, has traveled the country promoting tax cuts for the wealthy, education plans that would hurt teachers and was a pioneer of outsourcing jobs overseas. However, Wednesday night, Obama said Romney reversed those views because he "doesn't want to be held accountable for the real Mitt Romney" and "what he's been saying for the last year."

I realize foreign policy and relationships are not top of mind these days. I mean why would they be, but the world moves even as Congress moves backwards.

So yesterday the Russian Ambassador to NATO meets with Kyle and Kirk. His comment to the Russian press after the meeting:

Foreign Policy

Dmitry Rogozin, Russia's ambassador to NATO, met with Kyl and Kirk yesterday in Washington -- but they probably won't be meeting again anytime soon. After the meeting, Rogozin let loose on the senators..."Today in the Senate, I met with Senators Jon Kyl and Mark Kirk. The meeting is very useful because it shows that the alternative to Barack Obama is a collapse of all the programs of cooperation with Russia," he said. "Today, I had the impression that I was transported in a time machine back several decades, and in front of me sat two monsters of the Cold War, who looked at me not through pupils, but targeting sights.

Chained-CPI off the Table

by jsfox

Just a quick hit diary, but who would a thunk it that the rumors might be wrong.

TPM

Rep. Barney Frank says Minority Leader Pelosi reassured House Democrats that the COLA change (which amounts to escalating cuts to Social Security over time) floated in the press will not happen.

Now I am sure some will claim it was the pressure brought to bear yesterday. If it was great, but in the end all that matters is it isn't being considered.

Breaking! Halperin Suspended

by jsfox

MSNBC has suspended Mark Halperin "indefinitely" from his role as an analyst after he called President Barack Obama a "dick." Halperin has apologized for his comment.

"My remark was unacceptable, and I deeply regret it," he said.

Call Sign: POTUS

by jsfox

steveprint300dpi8

I origanally posted this diary over at Motley Moose and have been asked to repost here as part of the Kossack Air Force Group. It has nothing to do with politics, it certainly isn't a very serious diary , given all that is going on in the world and at home. Then again because everything right now is so serious - wars, nuclear meltdowns, budget battles, debt ceilings etc etc. I thought you all might enjoy the distraction.

So here goes  . . . The Story on how my pilot call sign became POTUS.

WSJ Reports and Knees Jerk

by jsfox

There have been a couple of diaries and one on the wreck list taking the WSJ at their word and proclaiming that Obama is caving yet again.

I'm not sure if it is reading comprehension or knee jerk syndrome that is the problem, but maybe it would be advisable to take a bit more jaundiced look at what the WSJ actually said.

From Steve Brenen over at Washington Monthly -

About Spain and Those Trials

by jsfox

There has been a lot of Sturm und Drang over the leaked cables that show the Obama Administration and State Department stepping in to put a stop to the Spanish trials of Bush and Cheney.

And I have made a comment explaining the why of this in almost every diary. When diaries started talking impeachment I thought we had sufficiently jumped the shark that a diary on the subject was necessary.

Ok first the background on how I got to my thinking.

I do not often recommend that folks head over to the WSJ for anything, but today I make an exception. As BP continues to spin this disaster as a failure of technology - the BOP's failure. Someone from the oil and gas industry has finally come along and declared Bull Shit!

Terry Barr, the writer of this letter to the editor in response to Hayward's WSJ Op Ed on June 4th, is President of Samson Oil and Gas Limited  which is a Australian based oil & gas company holding extensive development and exploration acreage in the USA. So I think the man knows of which he speaks.  He clearly lays the blame on BP and the failure of it's people to follow standard industry practices that could have prevented this disaster BOP failure or not.
