Bastion of liberalism that we may be here in Vermont, we’re not immune to the occasional public servant who, in a moment of candor, ‘jokes’ about their feelings on the public they serve, but not in a funny way. Right after Vermont saw its largest protest ever, essentially shutting down entry into the capitol (and getting a stronger showing than some other major American cities that have more population than the entire state), we get Barre City police officer Jason Fleury, cracking jokes about running “dumbass’ protesters over with a snowplow:
Fleury is not only a Barre police officer, he’s also the school resource officer at Barre City Elementary and Middle School.
The Barre police, when presented with this, gave a rather lame excuse, one we’ve all heard before, the “he didn’t really mean it”. From the Barre-Montpelier Times Argus:
[Chief]Bombardier said he has received emails from the public saying Fluery was talking about running people over with a snow plow because they were taking part in the march, but that’s not how he reads the comment. He said the comment was about frustration with the traffic jam and was talking about people walking on the interstate where they don’t belong.
Of course, the “snowflake/dumbasses” comment? No insight on that? Alternative facts we don’t know about?
Stay vigilant, folks. Hold them accountable.
