D.C. abuzz with rumors that GOP lawyers will file a brief at midnight seeking to prevent Ohio from declaring Obama the electoral winner.
John Stewart broke the next big Romney fail: According to an old video of Romney's mother, she and husband George were once on welfare and are greatful that America gave them a helping hand. See Mrs. Romney's heartfelt comments here:
Saturday's Los Angeles Times front page prominently informed readers whose combined household incomes total $100K - $200K that Romney's tax plan would raise their taxes significantly. That this disasterous data came from economists Romney often relies upon is astonishing.
"Deregulation. This is what got us into trouble in the first place."---Bill Clinton, in an Obama ad.
Would we trust our military to a private company? Our foreign policy? Our tax system? Our election system? Of course not. These are critical needs and processes that Americans rightly demand to control directly. Why then do we trust one of our most vital needs--our health system--to private corporations?
In another time and place, reportage of a television comedy star publicly demanding to speak to the President of the United States about the government covering up the existence of flying saucers and then publishing a faux-interview with the President in the notoriously anti-Semitic screed The Spotlight would have been noteworthy for one thing: Reporting on the rapidly deteriorating condition of that comedy star's mental condition, his removal by the network, and his eventual hospitalization.
But what if one news network took him seriously, his network looked the other way, and The Spotlight was sourced as a legitimate news organization?
Let's all cut loose for the next few days and celebrate the nation's first black president....er....half-black president. Therein lies a metaphor. Oh yeah, he's just as much white as he is black. Yup. I believe the color-wheel says that's gray.
Let's not forget the real Obama. When the party's over, let's sober up and assess this gray man one day at a time.
For those of us who supported Obama and change and opposed California's Proposition 8, the choice of Rick Warren not only shamelessly and heartlessly betrays the LGBT community (which nearly unanimously supported Obama) but also is yet another pre-inaugural decision that makes me pause to think: Have we been conned?
Prior to World War II, the world's major economies were in a decade-long depression, the worst cases being the once mighty industrial giants Germany and the United States. Despite numerous debt-building initiatives to kickstart these economies, nothing could get them moving. Except, eventually, war.
Looking back, there are arguably hundreds of little things that derailed the Straight Talk Express, and quite a few big things as well. But one moment, one sentence out of tens of thousands, stands out as the metaphor for who John McCain was, what is wrong with the Republican party and, ultimately, why he lost.
Before the McCain campaign and the clueless media begin to spin Joe the Plumber as some sort of American everyman, let's pause.....
