I saw a recent chart showing that the U.S. has relatively lower taxes than most western industrial nations:

I believe the opinion of most anti-tax people is that the countries we are listed under are not worth imitating -- France, Belgium, Sweden, etc. They are all welfare states on the decline and should not be our models.
Fine.
So ... what countries worldwide should the U.S. be emulating?
Here in Minnesota, Republicans often cite the more attractive tax climates of South Dakota. the joke is obvious. South Dakota has low taxes, and not much else besides.
So who is the point of comparison worldwide? What country should be be using as our model?
If you can get anyone to answer that, you will have a hook to hang your hat on forever.
Essentially, you are asking self-described patriots which country is better than ours.
Also, many of the lower-taxing industrial democracies are nevertheless "liberal" in the benefits they offer citizens -- U.K. Switzerland, Japan.
If these are the target nations, why don't we offer the same kind of health venefits, etc. that they do?
Republicans are the world's best managers, by their own reckoning. It should be easy for them.
